EXCLUSIVEI fled 犯罪のs in the UK for a 静かな life abroad, only to 会合,会う Christian Brueckner の中で Portugal's drifters - but police STILL won't listen to what I have to say about the 長,指導者 Madeleine McCann 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う

In 2004, Ken Ralphs left the UK with his wife Hazel for a new life in Portugal.

But unlike many expats who choose sunnier climbs over Britain, Ken was not 動機づけるd by 天候 or the cuisine.

Instead, he was 逃げるing for his life - a 決定/判定勝ち(する) that would see him cross paths with Christian?Brueckner, the 長,指導者 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う in?Madeleine McCann's 見えなくなる.

Ken, now 59, had 答える/応じるd to a police 控訴,上告 over a 1999 殺人 in Stockport.

The 事例/患者 shone a スポットライト on Manchester's 犯罪の 暗黒街, and through his の近くに work within the 地元の community, Ken (機の)カム across a phone number he thought would be of 利益/興味 to the police 調査/捜査するing the 殺人,大当り.

This (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) led to several 逮捕(する)s, but the (刑事)被告 were acquitted.

Over the course of the 調査 and その後の 裁判,公判, however, a life-changing error was made and Ken's 身元 as an informant - which he was 約束d would remain confidential - was 公表する/暴露するd to the defence team.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2004, Ken said this resulted in him 存在 branded a 'grass' by 地元の ギャング(団)s.

His food トラックで運ぶ 商売/仕事 was 石油-爆弾d, Ken and?Hazel's foster son was attacked as he walked home from work, and they received death 脅しs.

The couple were 軍隊d into police 保護, but - deciding that this was no way to live - Ken 告訴するd Greater Manchester Police for the 失敗 and was awarded £134,000 for 怠慢,過失 and 違反 of 信用/信任.

'No 量 of 補償(金) can ever 支払う/賃金 for the scar that the police 失敗 has left on our lives,' he told the Daily Mail at the time, as his story featured on the 前線 page of the newspaper, 同様に as the Mail On Sunday.

Ken and?Hazel used that money to buy a campervan and drove south from the UK to Portugal to escape the 脅しs. Little did they know at the time, however, that they were escaping the frying pan - and into a 解雇する/砲火/射撃.

As Ken was going through his ordeal, Brueckner - a German pett y どろぼう, 麻薬 trafficker,?paedophile and rapist - was playing his 貿易(する) in Portugal.

He resided in the Algarve,?Portugal's 最南端の 地域 known for its 大西洋 beaches, ゴルフ 訴える手段/行楽地s, holiday homes - and also its off-grid drifter community.

But to many in the UK, the 地域 is also known for the 2007 見えなくなる of Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old British girl who on May 3 that year 消えるd without a trace from the Ocean Club 訴える手段/行楽地 in Praia da Luz.

She had been there with her parents, but was left at home as the adults dined with their friends at the 訴える手段/行楽地's tapas 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 - 収入 them the 愛称 the Tapas Seven.

The 調査 into?Madeleine's 見えなくなる has 最終的に been fruitless, but in 2020, German 検察官,検事s 発表するd they have '固める/コンクリート 証拠' that the 46-year-old 犯罪の had 誘拐するd and killed the youngster.

Portuguese 検察官,検事s also 正式に identified Brueckner as a 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う in 2022 after it 現れるd that his yellow and white VW T3 Westfalia campervan was 報道によれば spotted 近づく the Praia da Luz 訴える手段/行楽地 in Portugal around the time Madeleine 消えるd.

Brueckner, who is 現在/一般に on 裁判,公判 in Germany for separate 罪,犯罪s, is believed to have been moving between southern Portugal and his 母国 from the 中央の 1990s, 捨てるing a living from 半端物 職業s such as selling cars and 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業-tending.

While in Portugal, he fell in with the Algarve's drifters and went on to commit a 一連の 罪,犯罪s - and has since been?罪人/有罪を宣告するd of counts of child 性の 乱用 and 麻薬 trafficking, all 関係のない to Madeleine McCann. He is?serving a 刑務所,拘置所 宣告,判決 in Germany for 強姦ing a 72-year-old American woman in the 地域.

Formal 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s against him in the McCann 事例/患者 have never been brought, and he has always 否定するd having anything to do with the thre e-year-old's 見えなくなる.

Ken, however, is 毅然とした that the German has a 事例/患者 to answer.

The front page story of the Daily Mail, published on April 16, 2004, detailed Ken's story of how he was labelled a grass and threatened after his identity as a police informant was revealed

The 前線 page story of the Daily Mail, published on April 16, 2004, 詳細(に述べる)d Ken's story of how he was labelled a grass and 脅すd after his 身元 as a police informant was 明らかにする/漏らすd?

Brueckner had already been living on-and-off in the Algarve for a number of years by the time that Ken and Hazel arrived in their campervan in 2004 and joined the drifter community living on campsites and beaches in the?picturesque 地域.

They lived off the 補償(金) won by Ken, who would also earn money through helping others living in motorhomes by 直す/買収する,八百長をするing and 持続するing their 衛星s.

Ken had been a community 支持する/優勝者 in Grea ter Manchester?where he had 以前 been an elected 代表者/国会議員 of a 地元の 政党.

He had also worked in 共同 with Manchester Police to fight 罪,犯罪 under the 罪,犯罪 and Disorder 行為/法令/行動する, and as a result, he was streetwise.

Because of his previous work - 連合させるd with his more 最近の experiences in Manchester - he was 用心深い of who to associate with.

'I knew who to choose to socialise with,' Ken told MailOnline. 'If you didn't like your 隣人, you could 簡単に start your engine the に引き続いて morning and move to another beach. You could 選ぶ and choose your friends wisely.'

He said that 99 パーセント of the people who arrived in caravans were 'decent lads'. Many were surfers, he said, or expats like he and his wife.

But there was also an underbelly of 犯罪のs, Ken said, and he quickly learned who to 避ける - 含むing 麻薬 売買業者s and 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うd paedophiles.

'I've got millions of friends out here [in Portugal] that are nothing like them,' Ken said. 'Even the people that live off-grid today are decent people.

'It's just the 半端物 one that hides [that are the 問題/発行する],' he 追加するd.

One person Ken met 早期に on was a man who MailOnline has chosen not to 指名する for 合法的な 推論する/理由s, and who for the 目的s of this article will be called John.

John was living in the Algarve with his wife and two young children, and was struggling to?make ends 会合,会う. He had 始める,決める up a small (軍の)野営地,陣営 on a beach, with a テント, mostly hidden from 見解(をとる) from any road or dwelling.

Ken said he and Hazel?would often take food to their (軍の)野営地,陣営 so the family could eat, and soon got to know them 井戸/弁護士席.

It was through John that Ken 正式に met?Brueckner for the first time, at?Praia do Amado - a bea ch around 10 miles from?Praia da Luz.

While Ken said he had seen the drifter at other 場所s in the 地域 since he had arrived in 2004 - at car boot sales, in town centres, or in other (軍の)野営地,陣営ing 位置/汚点/見つけ出すs on the 地域's beaches - John was the one to introduce them 正式に.

解任するing his first impressions of Brueckner when he first met him in 2006 - a year before Madeleine 消えるd - Ken said: 'He was a good looking lad. He was 悪賢い, his hair was 徹底的に捜すd 支援する, nice and tidy. He looked very clean.'

Pictures from?Brueckner's time in Portugal show the young German smiling for the camera with other motorhome owners.

'He spoke very 井戸/弁護士席 - posh English. He seemed very educated,' Ken 追加するd. 'I didn't have any 推論する/理由 to think he was the monster I've since learned him to be.

'He's a monster in disguise,' he said.

Brueckner was part of the Algarve's drifter community, and spent 12 years pursuing a bohemian lifestyle in and around Praia da Luz

A picture shows Christian?Brueckner's white and yellow campervan.?Portuguese 検察官,検事s 正式に identified Brueckner as a 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う in 2022 after it 現れるd that the VW T3 Westfalia campervan was 報道によれば spotted 近づく the Praia da Luz around the time Madeleine 消えるd

Brueckner was one of the people to know where John's secret (軍の)野営地,陣営 was, Ken said. 'They were knocking about with each other,' he 解任するd.

While he had some 疑惑 that Brueckner was an unsavoury character, he 追加するd: 'I didn't know of his past 犯罪の activities.?There's no way in God's earth I would have been around him at the time if I had known.'

In the time between 2006 and 2007, Ken said Christian went off somewhere else, leaving Ken to get to know John better and 焦点(を合わせる) his 成果/努力s on helping his family.

But one night in April 2007, around a week before Madeleine 消えるd, Ken said he and John were sitting around a campfire drinking some beers together having spent the evening with their families.

By this point, Brueckner had returned to the Algarve, and he had been around the (軍の)野営地,陣営 earlier too with the group - and at one point even had John's young daughter on his 膝, 'bouncing her up and 負かす/撃墜する,' Ken said.

He 解任するd John 説 that his daughter 'loved'?Brueckner, and that the German had 'even looked after her for us' when John and his wife had left the (軍の)野営地,陣営.

Ken and Hazel were planning on going 支援する to the UK in a few days, he said, and so they took some photos of the group that evening - 自信のない if everyone would still be there when they returned to Portugal.

His camera was later stolen from his 先頭.

After Brueckner left the 場所/位置, and after the others had turned in for the night, Ken was left alone with John, who he said started to get emotional, telling the British expat how difficult life had become and the struggles he had supporting his family.

It was then that John 明らかにする/漏らすd to him a shocking secr et, Ken said.

The desperate father 明らかにする/漏らすd to him that Brueckner had spoken about a 陰謀(を企てる) to 誘拐する a young girl and sell her to a family - 示唆するing it as a way to make some quick money - and that John could get in on the 計画(する).

'We sat by the 解雇する/砲火/射撃 until the 早期に hours of the morning,' Ken 解任するd to MailOnline, 'and that's when [John] started to cry and 自白する.'

The expat said he 最初 tried to 慰安 an '明白に depressed' John, before John asked Ken if he could tell him the 'secret'.

'[John] told me Christian was planning to take a child from Praia da Luz,' Ken said.

'He then 明らかにするd it was not 身代金, but that it was to take a child to sell to a German couple who could not have children of their own.

'He 保証するd me the child would not be 害(を与える)d,' Ken said, 追加するing that John 'told me Christian knew many people who will 支払う/賃金 good money for a child who cannot give birth, and that the child would be taken from a rich family with more than one child [of their own] so the parents would not grieve as 不正に.'

After this shocking 発覚, Ken 圧力(をかける)d John for more (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状).

He said John explained Brueckner 'worked at the [Ocean Club] restaurant, and that he had been planning events for months.'

The restaurant was the same that Kate and Gerry McCann were in with a group of friends on the night that Madeleine 消えるd.

'He said Christian Knows the place inside out and was very clever and he knows what he is doing,' Ken 追加するd.

解任するing that night, Ken told MailOnline that he 始める,決める about trying to dissuade John from going through with the 陰謀(を企てる), 警告 him to not 落ちる in with 犯罪のs.

He even 申し込む/申し出d John to jo in him in his 衛星 維持/整備 work to help get him 支援する on his feet.

However, to this day Ken is not sure if he got through to John. にもかかわらず his best 成果/努力s to get more (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) out of him about Brueckner's 申し立てられた/疑わしい 陰謀(を企てる), he said John 結局 went to bed 説 he was tired, and they didn't speak about it again.

A week later, Ken was 支援する in the UK - 簡潔に visiting his father in Stockport - when the news of Madeleine's 見えなくなる broke on the news.

'I was sat in my dad's house having a cup of tea when it (機の)カム on the news - the breaking news when the news (機の)カム out,' an emotional Ken 解任するd. 'First thing I said was 'oh for f*** sake'. My dad asked what's the 事柄, and I told my dad.'

The news left him in 涙/ほころびs, and his father 説得するd him to go to the police - にもかかわらず his past experiences.

Choosing not to return to police in Manchester after his experience in 2004 that 原因(となる)d him to 逃げる to Portugal, Ken said he 行為/法令/行動するd on his father's advice and 配達するd a 声明 to another 駅/配置する outside the city.

Ken (人命などを)奪う,主張するs he 手渡すd officers there a 手渡す-drawn 地図/計画する of where the tee-pee (軍の)野営地,陣営 was hidden in Portugal and requested they send it to Portuguese 公式の/役人s 伴う/関わるd in the search for Madeleine. He also told officers that John had told him Brueckner was working at Ocean Club, he said.

In a 声明 to MailOnline, the police 駅/配置する in question said it had no 記録,記録的な/記録する of any (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) 存在 供給するd to officers at the 駅/配置する.

On his return to Portugal days later, Ken went straight to the 場所/位置 of the tee-pee (軍の)野営地,陣営 - only to find that it had been destroyed by 解雇する/砲火/射撃 - all but a bamboo cage.

'What I got 支援する I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to see whether [John and his family] were still at the (軍の)野営地,陣営, to try and 設立する whether he had been 伴う/関わるd. If he was still about, I could have questioned him, but he wasn't there,' Ken said.

'It had all been destroyed by a 解雇する/砲火/射撃 - everything had been gutted, 全く burnt-out. All that remained was a four-or-five-foot cage, which I 設立する unusual, because the cage wasn't there before when [John] gave his 自白.'

After finding the destroyed (軍の)野営地,陣営 場所/位置, Ken searched the other Algarve beaches John was known to たびたび(訪れる), 説 he was 運動ing around for hours.

He 結局 設立する another 相互の 知識, a Frenchman who was also part of the drifter community (and who MailOnline is not 指名するing) at Amado beach - the popular 位置/汚点/見つけ出す for drifters around 10 miles from Praia da Luz.

The Frenchman told Ken that John had left him with his pet dog after leaving for Africa. This was surprising, Ken said, on account of John having no money.

Ken has never seen or spoken to John again.

He also said he spoke to two GNR (Portugal's 国家の 共和国の/共和党の Guard) 公式の/役人s and gave them the same (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) he had given to police 支援する in the UK.

He said the 公式の/役人s told them they were aware of John, but 疑問d he could be 伴う/関わるd on account of him having a family of his own.

As the story of Madeleine's 見えなくなる 攻撃する,衝突する the 前線 pages, the world's マスコミ descended on Praia da Luz.

Ken himself said he went 負かす/撃墜する to the Ocean Club 訴える手段/行楽地 around that time as 調査s were 進行中で, and saw police 徹底的に捜すing the area.

Nearby, he said, he 遭遇(する)d Brueckner wearing an apron.

Ken said he was 'gobsmacked' to see Brueckner in Praia da Luz, even as the マスコミ and 捜査官/調査官s were working in the small Algarve town.

'He was working at the Ocean 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 不法に' 存在 paid under the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, Ken (人命などを)奪う,主張するd.

'This man [Christian] was standing there in his restaurant pinny still working for them 不法に at the restaurant - which could have put その上の people at 危険.'

By working there, Ken 示唆するs, Brueckner would have had 接近 to the guest 調書をとる/予約する ledger - something that Kate McCann would go on to 表明する her 関心s over in the wake of her daughter's 見えなくなる.

In her 調書をとる/予約する, Madeleine's mother made 言及/関連 to a 封鎖する 調書をとる/予約するing 存在 jotted 負かす/撃墜する and how staff were able to read that their children would be alone.

She wrote: 'It wasn't until a ye ar later, when I was 徹底的に捜すing through the Portuguese とじ込み/提出するs, that I discovered that the 公式文書,認める requesting our 封鎖する 調書をとる/予約するing was written in a staff message 調書をとる/予約する, which sat on a desk at the pool 歓迎会 for most of the day.

'To my horror I saw that, no 疑問 in all innocence and to explain why she was bending the 支配するs a bit, the receptionist had written the 推論する/理由 for our request... we 手配中の,お尋ね者 to eat の近くに to our apartments as we were leaving our young children alone there and checking on them 断続的に.'

In the same 2011 調書をとる/予約する, 'Madeleine ? our daughter's 見えなくなる and the continuing search for her' Kate McCann 発言する/表明するd her 恐れるs of foreign paedophiles.

She wrote: 'Night after night, I read of depraved individuals, British paedophiles, Portuguese paedophiles, Spanish, Dutch and German paedophiles and the horrific 罪,犯罪s they committed.'

によれば 報告(する)/憶測s at the time, all 従業員s of the Ocean Club 訴える手段/行楽地 in Praia da Luz were interviewed by police during the 調査 into Madeleine's 見えなくなる.

However, Ken 示唆するs that if Brueckner was working at the restaurant off the 調書をとる/予約するs, he could have been 行方不明になるd by 捜査官/調査官s.

In 2020, when?Brueckner was 公式に 指名するd as a 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う by German police, Ken said he was left stunned to see the 直面する of the man he 簡潔に knew from Portugal 13 years ago looking 支援する at him on the news.

'I was straight on the blower 支援する to Scotland Yard,' he said, and asked if officers had followed up on any of the 詳細(に述べる)s he said he had given police in 2007.

He told them to search for John first and 真っ先の in the hope that he could shed light on whether?Brueckner had anything to do with?Madeleine's 見えなくなる, recounting again what John had told him a 事柄 of days before she 消えるd.

Ken was later told that the 行方不明の drifter was 跡をつけるd 負かす/撃墜する by the police.

However, によれば the expat, when police did catch up with John abroad, John told the 警官,(賞などを)獲得するs he had never met Ken or Hazel.

That's where the 調査 into John ended, Ken said, にもかかわらず there 存在 several other 証言,証人/目撃するs to them having known each other during their time in Portugal.

Ken told Sky News earlier this year that 'police told me someone had made 接触する with my friend abroad and he had 否定するd knowing me, but I have a dozen 証言,証人/目撃するs who will say that he's lying.

'I guess he just didn't want to be interviewed by the police,' he said.

Ken told MailOnline he has made several 試みる/企てるs to learn whether the (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) he passed on about?Brueckner was 行為/法令/行動するd upon.

In 2023, Ken wrote three letters to Scotland Yard's 操作/手術 Grange - the team 調査/捜査するing?Madeleine's 見えなくなる, which was 始める,決める up in 2011.

'Why did [my 声明] not raise a red 旗 and why [did] police fail to put two and two together to make Brueckner a 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う in 2007, instead of 延期するing it until 2020?' he asked in one of his letters 時代遅れの August 17 last year.

'Police were aware from (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) I had given about Christian 存在 the waiter who dealt with the restaurant bookings [at the Ocean Club],' his letter also said, before 尋問 why this was not looked at その上の.

DCI 示す Cranwell, the 上級の 調査/捜査するing Officer for 操作/手術 Grange did 答える/応じる to Ken's letters.

'I am aware that you are becoming ますます 失望させるd with the perceived 欠如(する) of 活動/戦闘 by the MPS and Portugal 法律 施行,' the reply said.

'However I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to 安心させる you that we have reviewed all the (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) you have 供給するd. The (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) is always 査定する/(税金などを)課すd, analysed and considered in the wider 状況 of the 調査.'

DCI Cranwell 追加するd: 'I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to 安心させる you tha t we have 株d the 関連した pieces of (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) with our international 法律 施行 partners in Germany and Portugal, who in turn make an 査定/評価 of the (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) against their own 内部の 政策s and 調査 戦略s.

Ken is not the only person to have known Brueckner who has (人命などを)奪う,主張するd they were ignored when raising 関心s about the German.

Last year, it was 明らかにする/漏らすd that a German man 指名するd Helge B. approached Scotland Yard in 2008, 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うing Brueckner's 関与.

Speaking to the German tabloid Bild, Helge said: 'I called Scotland Yard in 2008, (犯罪の)一味ing the Maddie hotline. I told them I know someone who has something to do with it and gave them his 指名する. They 公式文書,認めるd my personal 詳細(に述べる)s, my telephone number, but nothing happened. Nothing! They never even rang me 支援する.

'I thought to myself: I guess they'll be in touch at some point.'

What's more, other past friends of Brueckner's have pointed the finger at him.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2020, Austrian Michael Tatschl - who was friends with the German since 2000 when they lived in Portugal - said he was 確かな Brueckner was the one behind Madeleine's 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うd 誘拐.

'I know he did it,' Tatschl told the newspaper at the time.

'I was living with him at the time. He was my best friend and he was definitely a pervert and more than 有能な of snatching a child, for 性の kicks or money.

'I was sure it was him the minute the police (機の)カム to find me in Austria.

'They were very (疑いを)晴らす with me from the first minute. They said 'we are 調査/捜査するing Maddie McCann and Christian Brueckner' and I told them I knew it already.

'I was 納得させるd it was him,' Tatschl 追加するd.

And in an interview with the Mail On Sunday in 2021, Brueckner's ex-girlfriend (人命などを)奪う,主張するd he 認める 存在 の近くに to the McCann's apartment on May 3, 2007.

Nakscije Miftari 解任するd Brueckner 落ちるing silent when the 支配する of Madeleine's 誘拐 was raised by friends during a party in 早期に 2014 at their flat in Braunschweig, northern Germany.

'I remember he made no answer to the question. After they went, I asked about Maddie as I did not know anything about her,' she said.

'I asked him about it and he said, 'I know about Maddie, I was 近づく the hotel at the time. I was living in the area at the time. I am not going to say anything more. I am not a stupid guy, I am a 実業家.'

Ken's (人命などを)奪う,主張する that John told him Brueckner was plotting the 誘拐する to make money also 跡をつけるs with past comments from another ex-girlfriend.

Speaking to The Mirror in 2020, a British ex-girlfriend of the German said Brueckner's only passion - besides cars - was making money.

'Other people get joy out of films, music, socialising, that sort of thing,' she said at the time. 'But for [Brueckner], if there was no money to be made out of something, then there was no point doing it.'

Like those who knew Brueckner from the past, Ken also believes the German was c apable of kidnapping a child - but 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うs he did not 行為/法令/行動する alone.

However, once the group realised the マスコミ attention the 事例/患者 was getting, Ken said he 恐れるs they had no choice but to '配置する/処分する/したい気持ちにさせる' of the youngster.

'John did tell me that the child wouldn't be 害(を与える)d, so in the 支援する of my mind there's a 可能性 she could still be alive and she was sold,' he said.

'But in theory, when she was taken 支援する [to a nearby 場所], I believe she could have been 性質の/したい気がして of. When the マスコミ identified the 示す in her 注目する,もくろむ, she became a 義務/負債 in my opinion - and therefore [the group] wouldn't have been able to sell her.'
