The £100m Somerset public schoolboy with no GCSEs (but a string of glamorous admirers) who's Britain's new 決まり文句/製法 One hero: BARBARA DAVIES traces the incredible rise of Lando Norris?

Lando Norris was just five when his parents sold the red plastic quad bike he adored. 'They didn't tell me,' he later recounted. 'I just (機の)カム 支援する from school one day and it was gone. There were a lot of 涙/ほころびs . . . I really loved that bike.'

He had become an 早期に fan of MotoGP motorcycle racing and his parents were alarmed by the daredevil way he took corners on two wheels.

Lando Norris took his first ever?Formula One victory on Sunday in the Miami Grand Prix. He made his debut as Britain's?youngest ever F1 driver in Australia in 2019 when he was just 19

But if they thought that taking away his quad bike would put an end to his passion for racing, they couldn't have been more wrong, as they no 疑問 反映するd on Sunday when their son took the chequered 旗 in his first ever 決まり文句/製法 One victory.

Whooping with delight, Norris roared across the finish line at the Miami grand prix finally silencing doubters who once questioned his talent.

'Lando No-勝利,勝つs' is just one of the jibes the Bristol-born 24-year-old has 耐えるd in the years ― and the 109 race starts ― which followed his debut as Britain's youngest ever F1 driver, in Australia, in 2019 when he was just 19.

'I never lost 約束. I never didn't believe in what I could go out and do,' he said, moments after 安全な・保証するing his hard-won maiden F1 victory for McLaren at the end of his 110th race.

He 追加するd: 'For me to finally 証明する those people wrong and 証明する to people that didn't think I could go out and do it, it's put an even bigger smile on my 直面する today.'

As the son of one of Britain's wealthiest men, who bankrolled his son's 早期に career, it's fair to say that 個人として-educated Norris felt he had more to 証明する than most. But if his ascent to grand prix stardom does not 株 the rags-to-riches arc of fellow British racing 運動ing legend Sir 吊りくさび Hamilton, then it is no いっそう少なく remarkable.

As his proud father Adam said on Sunday, speaking to Sky Sports from his home in Somerset just minutes after his son's historic 勝利,勝つ: 'It's been a long time coming. Everyone's 説 it. It's beautiful. I'm so happy for him. It's been a long 旅行. The cider's flowing in Somerset.'

Still not even halfway through his 20s ― and without a 選び出す/独身 GCSE to his 指名する ― Norris has a four-year 契約 with McLaren 概算の to be 価値(がある) £100 million, 同様に as a £20 million Surrey mansion, not to について言及する a 一連の 注目する,もくろむ-popping 高級な brand 取引,協定s which have seen his handsome boy 禁止(する)d-星/主役にする 直面する plastered on billboards and across the pages of glossy magazines.

If that wasn't enough to be getting on with, off the 跡をつける he has already 開始する,打ち上げるd his own gaming and lifestyle brand, Quadrant, which is said to 連合させる his love for 'gaming, racing, content and apparel'.

After the race, his 110th in the sport, the 24-year-old said: 'I never lost faith. I never didn't believe in what I could go out and do'

Then there's the string of 素晴らしい models drawn to his 味方する like moths to a brightly-燃やすing 炎上. 指名するs linked to Norris, who thanks to his good looks also has the highest 率ing の中で 女性(の) F1 fans, 含む Portuguese social マスコミ 星/主役にする Luisinha Oliveira and Portuguese model and former Chelsea WAG Margarida Corceiro. All in all, then, a British 冒険的な fairy tale.

But while millions tuned in to watch Norris's 勝利を得た 勝利,勝つ on Sunday, 含むing his father, whose £ 200 million fortune saw him take 610th position on 2022's Sunday Times Rich 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる), the one person who may 井戸/弁護士席 not have been watching is Lando's mother Cisca who, he says, 'hates' watching him race because of the 危険s 伴う/関わるd.

Ironically, it was his father who was in the racing seat when his parents met in his mother's native Belgium 30 years ago.

Before entering the 財政上の services 産業 which would see him become one of Britain's richest men, Leicester University 工学 卒業生(する) Adam spent a year in Europe 追求するing a career as a 小旅行する cyclist.

He was just 26 when his 見通し of 年金s 存在 sold by phone, 地位,任命する or online received the 支援 of 財政上の services 巨大(な)s Peter Hargreaves and Stephen Lansdown. His brainchild, 年金s Direct, was 吸収するd into the Hargreaves Lansdown group which is now valued at more than £4 billion and brought the family riches beyond their wildest dreams. He left the 会社/堅い in 2008.

Lando, who was born in Bristol in 1999, was the second of the couple's four children. His older brother Oliver is 27 and he has two younger sisters, Flo, 22 and 18-year-old Cisca.

Like his siblings, he was educated at £45,000-a-year Millfield School in Somerset, not far from the Norris family's 田舎の home 近づく Glastonbury, although by the time his GCSEs (機の)カム 一連の会議、交渉/完成する, he was too tied up with motorsport かかわり合いs to sit his exams.

While his family are 熱烈な about horses and he and his siblings are talented riders, Lando stood out as a petrolhead at an 早期に age.

Soon after his parents went through with the sale of his red plastic quadbike that broke his heart, he 説得するd them to buy him a 50cc motorbike which he 棒 around the garden instead. Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday, Adam Norris said that he 概算の he had watched his son racing nearly 1,0 00 times over the past 16 years.

'It's been a long time but we got there,' he said. 'People don't realise there's a lot of bad days 同様に as good days. Five years in you think, 権利, it's too much. Too many 週末s away from home, away from your family. It makes it all 価値(がある) it.'

His son has never hidden the fact that Adam 最初 bankrolled his モーター racing career, admitting last summer in an interview with The Times that it was '100 per cent very, very (疑いを)晴らす for anyone' to see that his father had 財政/金融d his 入ること/参加(者) into F1.

But he 主張するd: 'You have to have talent to make it. You'll never get to 決まり文句/製法 One now if you're a bad driver.'

His burgeoning wealth saw him move to Monaco in 2022. 認めるing the 財政上の 推論する/理由s for the move, he told The Times that year: 'There are a few 推論する/理由s why. But we all know what the main one is. Yeah, the 天候's nice, but that's not the main 推論する/理由.'

If his rise to the 最高の,を越す has been gilded, then he has learnt valu able lessons on the way ― not least that he is not invulnerable.

That moment (機の)カム not behind the wheel of his 200mph racing car but outside Wembley Stadium where, three years ago, he was violently mugged for his watch.

'I didn't realise how quickly things could go scary,' he said last summer as he 解任するd the terrifying moment the £144,000 Richard Mille timepiece ― one of only five in 存在 ― was ripped from his wrist by one robber while another pinned him 負かす/撃墜する in a headlock.

That level-headedness saw the British racing driver (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 統治するing world 支持する/優勝者 Max Verstappen into second place in Miami on Sunday. Soon after that, a fawning Donald Trump 激しく揺するd up with his 安全 詳細(に述べる), telling Norris he was a 'lucky charm'.

Above all, Lando already has a 評判 as F1's 'nice guy', someone who, にもかかわらず becoming jaw-droppingly 豊富な at such a young age, still hangs around to help (疑いを)晴らす up with his team after races and who is seen by mechanics as a friend as a 井戸/弁護士席 as a driver.

As he took the chequered 旗 on Sunday, his first thoughts were not of himself but of all those who had guided him to that historic moment.
