Owners of some of the ºÇ¿·¤Î Chinese electric cars to enter Britain are ľÌ̤¹¤ëing expensive ¾ÞÍ¿¶âs and in some »öÎã¡¿´µ¼Ôs are 'almost uninsurable' for drivers.

It comes after ¤µ¤Þ¤¶¤Þ¤Ê Êó¹ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¿²±Â¬s of ÈÏ°Ï Rover owners struggling to find affordable cover for their ¾è¤êʪs, which is linked to the fact the ¹âµé¤Ê SUVs are ¸ºß Ūd by organised ÈȺá¤Î ¥®¥ã¥ó¥°¡ÊÃÄ¡Ës who are stealing them to order for °ãË¡¤Ê overseas Í¢½Ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ës.

However, the Êݸ± woes ľÌ̤¹¤ëd by owners of Chinese EVs hasn't been Ͷȯ¤¹¤ë¡¿°ú¤µ¯¤³¤¹d by their vulnerability to ÀàÅð; instead, it's a ·çÇ¡¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë of ÍøÍѤǤ¤ë parts and ÀìÌçŪÃμ± to ½¤Íý them that has seen ¾ÞÍ¿¶âs µÞ¤Ë¾å¤¬¤ë in ºÇ¶á¤Î months.

The ¥â¡¼¥¿¡¼ing magazine ºÇ¹âĬ¤Î¾ìÌÌs the BYD Ä´°õ¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë - a sporty electric saloon model that costs from ¡ò45,695 in Britain - as one example where owners are ľÌ̤¹¤ëing major difficulties finding cover at an affordable price - or at all.

'However, we are beginning to see ÌäÂ꡿ȯ¹Ô¤¹¤ës around market-ÌÀ³Î¤Ê¡¿ºÙÉô elements of their ¾è¤êʪs' lifecycles.

'In the UK, an Êݸ±²ñ¼Ò's ¿¦¶È after any »ö¸Î is to return the ¾è¤êʪ to pre-»ö¸Î ¾ò·ï, if this cannot be ãÀ®¤¹¤ëd (°ÂÁ´¤Ë or economically) then the ¾è¤êʪ needs to be written off; whilst this may seem obvious, Ãæ¹ñ and other Á´À¤³¦¤Î markets follow a different approach.

The ¼«Æ°¿ä¿Ê¤Î ´í¸± ÃÎǽ ²ñ¼Ò¡¿·ø¤¤ says owners might ľÌ̤¹¤ë higher ¾ÞÍ¿¶âs for some time while a better ¶¡µë¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë chain on parts and ½¤Íý »Ø¼¨¡¿¶µ¼ø¡¿¶µ°és are ³ôd from Ãæ¹ñ.?

'Thatcham ¸¦µæ is already working with new À½Â¤¶È¼Ôs to build their understanding of designing °ÂÁ´¤Ê, °ÂÁ´¤Ê¡¦Êݾڤ¹¤ë, and °Ý»ý¤Ç¤¤ë ¾è¤êʪs, and to ³Î¼Â¤Ë¤¹¤ë when ¾è¤êʪs come to market in the UK, they fit into our °æ¸Í¡¿ÊÛ¸î»ÎÀÊ-ÀßΩ¤¹¤ëd ecosystem,' Ben explained to us.
