- 運動ing costs 17-20 year-olds 135 per cent above インフレーション over the last 35 years?
- Nearly half of 熟考する/考慮する 報告(する)/憶測d they can't afford to 運動 without help from parents
- Large rise 予定 to 急に上がるing costs of 保険 賞与金s - up 25 per cent last year
Under 21s looking to get on the road 直面する far steeper costs than what their parents 直面するd, new data shows.
In what should be a time?of excitement and independence has turned into a 財政上の 速度(を上げる) bump too big for many.
It costs an 普通の/平均(する) of £7,609 to get a 17 to 20-year-old on the road and 運動ing for the first year, によれば the 最新の 版 of MoneySupermarket's 世帯 Money 索引.
In 1989 the 普通の/平均(する) young 運転者 had to 支払う/賃金 £1,285 (£3,234 adjusted for インフレーション) to get on the road. It means a rise of 135 per cent in 35 years.
It costs young people in 2024 a ginormous 135 per cent above the 率 of インフレーション over the last 35 years, comparative to 1989 when it cost £3,234 (adjusted for インフレーション)
These 人物/姿/数字s 変化させる 13 per cent across the UK: London's the dearest costing an 普通の/平均(する) of £8,422, 反して in Cardiff it costs £7,309.
Nearly half of young people said they couldn't afford to get 運動ing without 財政上の help from their parents.
And the 大多数 of under-25s (53 per cent) who'd put off learning to 運動 said they'd 避けるd it because it was too expensive.
Many kids will hope their parents can 半導体素子 in and help, but in a blow to eager drivers, parents who took part in the 研究 概算の they could only 与える/捧げる £990 ? or 13 per cent of the 量 needed.
While most people would have 選ぶd up a Saturday 職業 to cover the cost of lessons or undertaken 半端物 職業s around the house and 地元の area for pocket money, that just won't 削減(する) it these days.
The HMI 設立する that a 17-year-old would need to work over 1,188 hours to cover the cost of 運動ing their first year on the road.?
With 17-year-olds 収入 最小限 行う of just £6.40 an hour, 十代の少年少女s would need to spend more than half their 年次の income to 運動.
The biggest 推論する/理由 for the cost 増加する (機の)カム from the 大規模な 引き上げ(る) in 保険 賞与金s - something This is Money has covered in 詳細(に述べる)
To work out the c osts of getting on the road MoneySupermarket's HMI - one of the most in-depth cost 分析 of getting on the road - took into account 購入(する)ing a licence, lessons and a 実験(する), 加える the cost of 現実に 運動ing - buying a car, 保険, 燃料 and 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s such as ULEZ and parking tickets.
The biggest 推論する/理由 for the cost 増加する is through 引き上げ(る)s in 保険 賞与金s.?
によれば data from the comparison website, 保険 has risen over five times the 率 of インフレーション ?? 27 per cent since 2019.
In 2023 the 普通の/平均(する) car 保険 賞与金 rose 25 per cent, with the 協会 of British 保険会社s (ABI) 報告(する)/憶測ing that the 普通の/平均(する) 賞与金 was £543, up from £434 in 2022.
In 2019 the 普通の/平均(する) 保険 引用する for a 17 to 20 year old was £1,240 ? today it's £1,700.
While 運動ing your children might seem like a cost-効果的な 代案/選択肢, once you've taken into account the drain on time the HMI shows that it makes more sense if you can afford it to 与える/捧げる to your child learning to 運動 and getting a car
So, is 運動ing your kids a 解答 instead??
MoneySupermarket 設立する the 普通の/平均(する) parent of the 17 to 20-year-old age group spends 9.3 hours a month or 4.6 days a year フェリー(で運ぶ)ing their kids around ? which costs them £1,336 a year.
Spread over the three years between 17 and 20, the value of the 解除するs parents give their kids would 支払う/賃金 for 31 per cent of their total モーターing costs in the same period.
But the HMI finds it's a better 投資 (if you can afford it) to put this money に向かって 支払う/賃金ing your children to 運動 rather than 存在 a taxi service.
支払う/賃金ing for your kids' licence, lessons and first year of 保険 totals an 普通の/平均(する) of £3,658, leaving them to manage the cost of the car itself 加える 燃料, 税金s and 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s. And parents will have that 井戸/弁護士席-earned time 支援する.
Sara Newell, of MoneySupermarket, said: 'Parents of today's young drivers 一般に had a much いっそう少なく expensive experience when it was our turn to get on the road.?
'95 per cent of people we asked underestimated how much it costs for young drivers today - which is no surprise given it's 135 per cent above the 率 of インフレーション over the last 35 years.
'When you're 直面するd with the 決定/判定勝ち(する) of slogging it out as a taxi service, or helping financially so your kids can get on the road, it's not a straightforward choice - as our 最新の 世帯 Money 索引 shows'.
