The last 10 years has seen a seismic 転換 for the 産業, 含むing the advent of mainstream electric cars, an 悪名高い 放出/発行s cheating スキャンダル, a にわか景気 in SUV sales and 出現 of new brands from the US and 中国.

Throw into the mix a 全世界の pandemic that 軍隊d 一時的な 終結 of factories and resulted in a two-year parts 供給(する) 不足, and the 自動推進の landscape looks 劇的な different to how it did before.

But what 衝撃 has all this had on the cars Britons buy from showrooms?

Our 分析 of 登録s data looks at 12 ways buying habits and 傾向s have developed between 2013 and 2023.

1. Demise of ディーゼル

The 落ちる in 需要・要求する for ディーゼル cars has been 井戸/弁護士席 文書d in 最近の years.

In 2013, 49.8 per cent [yes, half!] of all new cars 登録(する)d were ディーゼルs.?

That was more than 石油s (48.8 per cent) while '代案/選択肢 燃料 乗り物s' ? both hybrids and electric 乗り物s (EVs) 連合させるd ? 代表するd the remaining 1.4 per cent of sales 10 years ago.

2. Brands that have disappeared, like Mitsubishi?

The highest profile name to disappear from the UK market in the last decade is arguably Mitsubishi. Back in 2013, it was selling around 9k cars a year but European operations were ceased in 2020 as part of a cost-saving strategy

Checking 支援する to 2013 registr ation data shows a number of brands that are no longer 利用できる in the UK for one 推論する/理由 or another.

The most 著名な 見えなくなる is Mitsubishi, which in 2013 made up a fraction (0.4 per cent) of all 登録s with a shade over 9,000 sales that year ? which is almost on par with EV brand Polestar ーに関して/ーの点でs of total 部隊s last year.

The most obvious 指名する on the UK car sales 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) that wasn't there a 10年間 ago is Tesla, which 公式に didn't start 申し込む/申し出ing EVs in Britain until 2014.

A number of new spin-offs of 存在するing 製造業者s have also seen the market 拡大する, with the likes of Citroen's 高級な arm DS Automobiles, Alpine ? the 業績/成果 支店 of Renault ? and?Seat's sister marque Cupra all 現れるing in the last 10 years.

The latter was the biggest 販売人 of all the spin offs last year, with Cupra 一致するing an impressive 25,658 登録s, which is only marginally behind Seat (32,177). In fact, bosses said in 2023 that Cupra would likely 取って代わる the Seat brand before the end of the 10年間.

But does that mean it's any good? We spent a week 実験(する)ing one to find out.

モーターs sold by these three companies alone accounted for one in every three 登録s (33.4 per cent) that year.

急速な/放蕩な 今後 a 10年間 and the 最高の,を越す three performers (VW, Ford and Audi) accounted for いっそう少なく than one in four (23.3 per cent) of UK sales by brand.

And the data shows that Ford's once 要塞/本拠地 on Britain's new car market has 弱めるd.

Not only has it slipped behind VW ーに関して/ーの点でs of sales 容積/容量s, its 13 per cent market 株 in 2013 was 負かす/撃墜する to 7.5 per cent in 2023.?

Small cars remain the most popular across all 乗り物 types in the UK - as has been the 事例/患者 for a very long time.

However, SUVs are 徐々に の近くにing the gap as more drivers switch to larger, high-riding models.

This is because SUV are eating into their market dominance.

6. The electrifying rebirth of MG (which now sells more cars in Britain than Skoda and Volvo)

The last 10年間 has seen a 抱擁する 転換 change for MG. The 再発進するd badge under Chinese 所有権 had only the MG6 on sale in 2013 and was the 38th most popular brand. Roll on to 2023 and it has a (n)艦隊/(a)素早い of 尊敬(する)・点d EV models and is the 11th biggest-selling make

The return of t he MG badge to the British market is going 広大な/多数の/重要な guns.

Having returned to the UK scene under SAIC モーター (Shanghai 自動推進の 産業 会社/団体) 所有権 in 2011, MG モーター UK in 2013 had just its much-maligned MG6 saloon on sale in Britain - which explains its paltry 0.02 per cent market 株 that year.

But in 最近の years, the brand's EV 移行 has seen its 人気 blossom.

Under Chinese 所有権, the 再発進するd marque today predominantly sells 予算-friendly electric models - and やめる a lot of them at that.

The MG4 was Britain's second most popular new EV in 2023 with 21,715 sold. Only the Tesla Model Y was 購入(する)d in greater numbers last year (35,899).

As such, MG is the biggest mover ーに関して/ーの点でs of 増加するd market 株 in the last 10年間.

From 存在 the 38th most popular brand a 10年間 ago, last year it was the 11th 全体にわたる, outselling the likes of Skoda, Peugeot, Land Rover, Volvo and Renault.

With a market 株 of 4.27 per cent in 2023, it has 増加するd its tyreprint in the UK by a staggering 19.094 per cent over a 10-year stint. That's the biggest rise across all brands over the period reviewed.

Earlier, we について言及するd that Ford's Puma was Britain's most bought new car in 2023.

In fact, so much has changed that just two models in the 最高の,を越す 10 best 販売人s of 2013 appeared in the 2023 order.?

And that's not because those 2013 nameplates no longer 存在するs.

Every one of the most popular models from 10 years ago were still in showrooms last year, be it in later 世代s.

One exception to the 支配する from this year will be the Fiesta, with Ford culling 生産/産物 of Britain's most bought car of all time (and 2013's best 販売人) last summer, which should see 売買業者 供給(する)s emptied in 2024.

Porsche's market 株 has risen by 250 per cent in a 10年間, climbing from just 0.36 per cent in 2013 to 1.27 per cent last 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語. Only MG has 増加するd its 足跡 more in the last 10 years, the SMMT's data shows.

Audi is the 'number one selling 賞与金 brand' at the moment, with a total of 137,489 sales placing the four-(犯罪の)一味 logo third 全体にわたる in the new car charts.

It has a market 株 of 7.2 per cent?? a 記録,記録的な/記録する 人物/姿/数字 for the marque in the UK?? that isn't too far ahead of where it was in 2013 (6.3 per cent 株).

10. What's happened to Vauxhall?

Of all the former big players in the UK sales charts, Vauxhall's 落ちる from grace could be considered the most 劇の of all.

In 2023, it has slipped behind Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Toyota and Kia ーに関して/ーの点でs of 完全な 登録s.

Last year, just one in 20 new cars were Griffin-badged モーターs, as Vauxhall's market 株 slipped to 5.28 per cent. And the 最新の-世代 Astra is nowhere to be seen in the 最高の,を越す 10 best selling models.

Contrary to Vauxhall's poor 最近の form, Korean sister brands Hyundai and Kia have enjoyed big success in the last 10年間.

Already stamping their 当局 in Britain 支援する in 2013, the pair have gone from strength to strength since, climbing their way up the 最高位のs of the most popular brands の中で UK drivers.

Kia was the 12th best-selling 製造業者 10 years ago but has since jumped to sixth 全体にわたる as it now has a greater 株 of the UK's new car market than Vauxhall.

While Britain's are buying more Korean, Chinese and US-branded cars today than they did a 10年間 ago, the same can't be said about a number of once popular European marques.

And, coincidentally, many of the biggest fallers 落ちる under the same 所有権 旗,新聞一面トップの大見出し/大々的に報道する of the enormous Stellantis Group.
