The stalker from Netflix sensation Baby Reindeer 悩ますd my family for five years… she even 脅すd to kill my MP husband
Something about the woman on her television 審査する made Laura Wray feel uneasy. The lawyer, and 未亡人 of a 労働 MP, was relaxing at home, captivated by the 開始 minutes of the Netflix sensation Baby Reindeer, 特に by the character Martha who stalks a struggling comedian.
What was it about Martha that seemed so familiar? Maybe the raucous laugh that seemed to last just a bit too long, or the way she clutched her handbag to her 味方する when timidly entering a pub. Whatever it was about this curly-haired Scot, she reminded Laura of someone from her past. The realisation （機の）カム like an electric 揺さぶる, and Laura 低迷d 支援する on her sofa, open-mouthed.
For she knew Martha only too 井戸／弁護士席, or rather the real Martha, who, more than a ４半期/4分の1 of a century earlier, upended Laura's happy life with a relentless five-year いやがらせ （選挙などの）運動をする. It was so 猛烈な／残忍な at one 行う／開催する／段階 that Laura was 軍隊d to 問題／発行する staff at her Glasgow 法律 会社／堅い with panic alarms.

In one scene from the 演劇 Martha flips from exuberance to 叫び声をあげるing 激怒（する） in an instant. 'That put it beyond 疑問 ? I've seen her do that,' says Laura.
Baby Reindeer, which has been watched by 13 million テレビ視聴者s in just two weeks, topping the Netflix charts in 30 countries, is based on the real-life experience of its creator, Richard Gadd, who plays a 見解／翻訳／版 of himself, an aspiring comic.
One day, Martha walks into the pub where he 作品 and 誇るs of 存在 a hotshot lawyer though, inexplicably, a broke one. Taking pity, he makes her a cup of tea. So begins the start of a terrifying obsession.
Soon she is emailing Gadd hundreds of times a day, turning up outside his house and 悩ますing his family and friends.
Over a period of four-and-a-half years, Gadd says he received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, letters totalling 106 pages and 350 hours of voicemail messages.
The series also hints at Martha's previous history of stalking. Gadd's character Donny is seen googling her and finding a newspaper article ? fictionalised for the show ? with the headline: 'Sick stalker 的s barrister's deaf child.'
Gadd has 主張するd the character of Martha was so 井戸／弁護士席 disguised in his script that the real-life person she was based on 'would not recognise herself'. But for Laura ? the 'barrister' referred to in those 偽の headlines ? the shocking 承認 of the woman who had terrorised her family, 含むing her 厳しく 無能にするd son Frankie, was almost instant.
Nor did it take long for internet sleuths to 暴露する the real Martha and 的 her with 乱用 online.
Speaking to The Mail on Sunday yesterday, the woman ? whose 身元 we have chosen not to 公表する／暴露する ? （人命などを）奪う，主張するd the Netflix show 量d to 'いじめ（る）ing an older woman on television for fame and fortune' and that she had received 'death 脅しs' from Gadd's 支持者s. The comedian, she said, was 'using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now'.
But while 'Martha' may be keen to paint herself as a 犠牲者, for Laura that is a tad ironic.
If anything, Laura's nightmare （太陽，月の）食／失墜d that of Gadd. At one 行う／開催する／段階 'Martha' made a death 脅し against her husband, Jimmy Wray, then MP for Glasgow Baillieston.
But the final straw （機の）カム in 2002 when the woman 誤って （刑事）被告 the couple of 強襲，強姦ing Frankie, then nearly four years old, who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder. 'I know Martha by her real 指名する, but my jaw dropped watching the series,' said Laura, speaking 排他的に to The Mail on Sunday for the first time about her ordeal
'It brought so many things 支援する to me that I'd forgotten. She did the same to me, made my life a nightmare. He [Gadd] has got her 位置／汚点／見つけ出す-on. His reaction was 正確に／まさに the same as 地雷. I felt sorry for her. Everybody she's come across and pestered the life out of has felt the same, it seems.'
The real 'Martha', now 58, is from a middle-class family who lived in a village 近づく Stirling.
She was a 法律 卒業生（する） and first （機の）カム into Laura's 軌道 in October 1997, when Laura was 説得するd to give her a two-week 裁判，公判 at her company. 'She told me a real hard-luck story about how she had no family support and how she got her 法律 degree and was looking for a traineeship, but nobody would give her one,' says Laura.
'I had my 保留（地）／予約s. She was terribly upfront, telling me all this very personal stuff. Before we even met, she sent me a postcard congratulating me on my 約束／交戦 to Jimmy. But 基本的に, I felt sorry for her.
'Once she started with us she was rude to everyone. Once she threw a 調書をとる／予約する across the room and 攻撃する，衝突する a member of staff on the 長，率いる. One day, she 乗組員を乗せた a phone line and we discovered she was recommending 競争相手 solicitors.

'She also shouted at Karen, one of my 長官s, and 需要・要求するd she 減少（する） everything else she was doing for me and instead do something for her すぐに.
'Then she began 脅すing people and 叫び声をあげるing, like in Baby Reindeer when she goes from 存在 やめる pleasant to shouting, 'Don't speak to me like that!'
'She did the same [in my office] and I told her, 'We're a 商売／仕事 I can't have that 肉親，親類d of behaviour.' I 解雇する／砲火／射撃d her after a week. She was furious and 脅すd that she'd do this, that and the other to me.
'She then ran from my room 叫び声をあげるing that she was not going to leave and that she was calling the 法律 Society. She was 説 that everyone in the 合法的な world disliked me and that my staff were useless. Then she started shouting, 'Jimmy Wray will rue the day'.
'Some of the girls in the office were shaking and upset and thought she was going to attack me or some of the other staff. 結局 she was 護衛するd out, still cal ling me vile 指名するs, and was later spotted circling the office in her car.'
Soon she was 砲撃するing Laura with 脅すing phone calls 説 'I'll get you', and disparaging her to other solicitors, her family, friends and political associates of her husband, の中で them Donald Dewar, Scotland's 就任の First 大臣.
In September 2001, the woman even left a message on her MP's answering machine, 脅すing to kill Jimmy. Feeling 'genuinely sorry' for her, Laura tried to ignore it. She says: '支援する then there wasn't 法律制定 about stalking or 悩ますing.
'There was no obvious 権利 of 頼みの綱 for me. The only thing I could have done was 告訴するd for defamation but there was no point, she had no money and the only other 選択 was using civil 手続き which wasn't really designed for that 肉親，親類d of thing.'
Yet her reserves of compassion would soon run 乾燥した，日照りの.
Things 増大するd when Laura started a course at the University of Strathclyde the に引き続いて month to get some 付加 資格s. On the first day, she bumped into her stalker ? 星／主役にするing at her across a room, her gaze like a harpoon. 'She kept turning up now and again at lectures I went to. She was just suddenly there.
'やめる a few times she （機の）カム and stood beside me as students waited for the lecture room doors to open. I have recollections of her 権利 next to me ? almost breathing over me. It was very unnerving, and I was 脅すd. I had to get some of the other students to walk me to my car.
'I went to see a professor and explained everything and he looked up the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） and said she's not 現実に 登録（する）d as a student. But the university ignored me and did nothing.'
The university later apologised, admitting that the woman had, in fact, been a student but had been 永久的に 除外するd for he r behaviour に向かって other students and staff.
But it was in April 2002 that her behaviour finally crossed a line for Laura. She arrived home with Frankie, then nearly four, to find two social 労働者s at her door.
'[The woman] had （人命などを）奪う，主張するd we 攻撃する，衝突する our son and I was 軍隊d to explain all the background,' Laura says. 'The social 労働者s thankfully believed me but it was just dreadful, and I was 絶対 furious.
'This is a child who couldn't walk or speak, couldn't do anything for himself. To think that someone could 示唆する we would do this [害（を与える） him] is vicious and cruel.
'It was all 井戸／弁護士席 and good to 令状 someone off as mentally ill and just ignore the いやがらせ. But the final thing was Frankie, and I wasn't having that.'
Laura 適用するd to the 法廷，裁判所s for a 抑制するing order, which was 認めるd the に引き続いて day.

For Laura and her family, it gave them long-を待つd peace. But over the years she would occasionally find herself wondering what happened to her stalker. Did she 的 others? Did she get the help she needed?
And then （機の）カム Baby Reindeer. 'I feel sad that she managed to slip through the 割れ目s for so long when she's 明確に unwell,' Laura says.
She's 狼狽d, too, that the woman has now been identified on social マスコミ as a result of the Netflix show ? にもかかわらず Gadd's 主張 that he had obscured her 身元.
'He's had an Edinburgh Fringe show that featured this story and now he's got this 攻撃する，衝突する series on Netflix and 絶対 good luck to him, but it must have occurred to him that people were bound to 推測する on who Martha is ? and whether she's done this to anyone else,' says Laura.
'They could have changed things without diluting the content, but they've made it so 現実主義の.
'They have portrayed her 絶対 位置／汚点／見つけ出す on, it is so 明白に the woman who stalked me. It is so uncanny.'
