Pity was the first emotion Richard Gadd felt when he clapped 注目する，もくろむs on the woman who would become his stalker.

He was a struggling stand-up comic working behind the 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 at a pub in London when she walked in one day, 誇るing that she was a high-飛行機で行くing lawyer and yet, strangely, was unable to afford to buy herself a drink.

Feeling sorry for her, Glasgow University 卒業生（する） Gadd 申し込む／申し出d her a cup of tea on the house, a 肉親，親類d gesture he would, one might think, 激しく live to 悔いる.

Instead, he took that moment, and the madness which followed, and turned it into Baby Reindeer, the 驚くべき／特命の／臨時の 攻撃する，衝突する Netflix 演劇 which has taken the television world by 嵐／襲撃する and brought the 34-year-old 夜通し fame and fortune.

見解（をとる）d more than 13 million times in the past fortnight and reaching number one in the Netflix charts in 30 countries, 含むing the UK and the U.S., Gadd wrote and directed the seven-part 小型の-series in which he 星／主役にするs as Donny Dunn ― a 見解／翻訳／版 of himself ― and takes its incongruous 肩書を与える from the pet 指名する of Baby Reindeer given to Donny by his deranged 女性（の） stalker.

Over four and a half years, Gadd says he received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, letters totalling 106 pages and 350 hours of voicemail messages from the older woman, whom he calls Martha in the show. But while the 新たな展開s and turns of their 高度に 有毒な 関係 have 証明するd to be ratings gold, Baby Reindeer's runaway success seems to have come at a price.

For while Gadd has 以前 （人命などを）奪う，主張するd to have disguised his stalker's 身元 to such an extent that, he has said, 'I don't think she would recognise herself', it didn't take long for internet sleuths to work out who she is.

The woman, who spoke to the Mail this week but whom we have decided not to 指名する, told us she thought Gadd's script 量d to 'いじめ（る）ing an older woman on television for fame and fortune' and that she had received online 'death 脅しs and 乱用 from Richard Gadd 支持者s'.

'He's using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now,' she （人命などを）奪う，主張するd. 'I'm the 犠牲者. He's written a 血まみれの show about me.'

More, in a moment, of the Mail's 驚くべき／特命の／臨時の 遭遇（する） with the woman who is said to have obsessively 悩ますd Gadd for years.

For with internet 憶測 at fever pitch ― not just about the 女性（の） stalker but also about the 身元 of an older male TV comedy writer who grooms and 強姦s Gadd's character in Baby Reindeer ― West Midlands police stepped into the fray this week after a string of 誤った 告訴，告発s and 脅しs were made on social マスコミ against a prestigious theatre director.

A sorry mess, indeed, though perhaps 推定する／予想するd given the 爆発性の nature of what he has called 'lightly fictionalised' 構成要素. How could he not have 推定する／予想するd that テレビ視聴者s would try to identify the real people behind his outlandish characters?

For the woman said to be the real-life 'Martha', a 58-year-old who lives alone in a 会議 flat in central London 生き残るing on a food 予算 of £30 a week, 株 several 重要な similarities with her on-審査する persona.?

Indeed, Gadd's （人命などを）奪う，主張する that he has 保護するd her 身元 by changing 重要な 詳細（に述べる）s is baffling given that both women are Scottish, both 熟考する／考慮するd 法律 at university, both are around 20 years older than Gadd and both use 高度に sexualised language in their speech and 令状ing.

The woman also 耐えるs an uncanny physical resemblance to Martha although after watching Baby Reindeer this week she told the Mail: 'She sort of looks like me after I put on four 石／投石する during lockdown but I'm not 現実に unattractive.'

The 平行のs between the women's lives do not stop there. In the first episode of Baby Reindeer, Gadd's character Donny is seen googling 'Martha' and discovering, 経由で a newspaper article, th at she has a previous history of stalking ― just like the real woman Gadd knew.

The made-up headline shown on 審査する reads: 'Sick stalker torments barrister's deaf child' ― not 正確に／まさに a million miles away from a 本物の article about the woman.

In this 事例／患者 it was a 政治家，政治屋 whose wife gave a 職業 to the woman, a 法律 卒業生（する）, as a 訓練生 solicitor before letting her go within days after becoming alarmed by her 行為／行う. She became so 関心d that staff were 問題／発行するd with panic alarms.

The wife said the woman's behaviour had been bizarre and she had to be 護衛するd from the building.

The woman was said to have とじ込み／提出するd 偽の and hugely 苦しめるing （民事の）告訴s 告発する／非難するing the 政治家，政治屋 and his wife of 乱用ing their young 無能にするd son which led to social 労働者s turning up on their doorstep to 調査／捜査する the （人命などを）奪う，主張するs.

The wife 結局 安全な・保証するd an 'interdict' ― a 抑制するing order ― against her 経由で the Scottish 法廷，裁判所s. She had 以前 also 的d a Scottish MP, turning up at his '外科s' and 開始する，打ち上げるing tirades of 乱用 at him.

So how did Gadd come into her 軌道?

The comedian, who was born and raised in a village 近づく Fife, and the woman who became his stalker met around a １０年間 ago in the Hawley 武器, a trendy Camden pub once たびたび（訪れる）d by the late Amy Winehouse and her 側近.

On 審査する, the often あいまいな nature of their 早期に 遭遇（する）s makes gripping 見解（をとる）ing, as do Donny's often 悲惨な 決定／判定勝ち（する）s about how to を取り引きする Martha.

In the 演劇, Donny 収容する／認めるs to 存在 intrigued by her endless chatter and to enjoying the attention he gets from her at a time when his life is not going 井戸／弁護士席.

混乱させるd about his sexuality, he flatters Martha, played by actress Jessica Gunning in the show, and flirts with her in a 企て，努力，提案 to impress his laddish 同僚s. In one 交流, Donny tells Martha how young she looks and says: 'Peter Pan needs his moisturiser 支援する.'

The woman, 一方／合間, 解任するs the comedian 発言／述べるing how young she looked for her age ― 47 at the time. He said: 'What moisturiser do you use?' 'I said, 'Oil of Ulay' slapped on,' she told the Mail.

But she 論争d some elements of the 演劇. On the TV show, Martha gives Donny the 愛称 Baby Reindeer because, she says, he reminds her of a cuddly toy reindeer she had as a child with 'big lips, 抱擁する 注目する，もくろむs and the cutest 少しの bum'.

But the woman （人命などを）奪う，主張するd: 'I've never owned a toy baby reindeer and I wouldn't have had any conversation with Richard Gadd about a childhood toy either.' For テレビ視聴者s caught up in this moral muddle, it is gripping 見解（をとる）ing.

The Netflix series is based on Gadd's 2019 Edinburgh Fringe one-man theatre show of the same 指名する which was a sell-out 攻撃する，衝突する, with the comedian （人命などを）奪う，主張するing that 'it felt like it was 活発に mending me'.

Yet Gadd's experiences with a stalker weren't the first time he had 地雷d the depths of his 私的な life for stand-up 構成要素.

Baby Reindeer also 会社にする／組み込むs a real-life experience from earlier in his career, which Gadd turned into his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show, Monkey See Monkey Do. This saw him 配達する a hugely personal and harrowing account, while running on a treadmill, of 存在 強姦d by a manipulative older man.?

述べるd by The Telegraph as 'a show that sucks you into a very troubled mind' and 'comedy-as-personal-catharsis taken to a whole new level', it won Gadd that year's Edinburgh Comedy Award and later transferred to the Soho Theatre in London for an eight-week run.

But while his career was finally on the ascent, behind the scenes Gadd's life was 存在 made a 悲惨 by his stalker.

'It felt like I'd expunged the demons of one person who had 原因（となる）d me so much grief, only so that she could take centre 行う／開催する／段階 in his place.

'It felt so awfully ironic,' he said in an interview with The 後見人 in 2019 to publicise his Baby Reindeer 行う／開催する／段階 show.

While he 定評のある that the show might 刺激する his stalker, he said it was a 危険 価値（がある） taking, 'a last roll of the dice' to 向こうずね a スポットライト on stalking. He also 主張するd that it was about 最高潮の場面ing that harassers needed more care than 罰. 'She needs help,' he said at the time, 'but she's not getting any. In an interview to publicise the new Netflix series, Gadd 保証するd The Times last week that the stalking 問題／発行する was '解決するd'.

But the woman in question, who 否定するd 存在 a stalker when it was put to her by The Mail, said: 'Richard Gadd has got 'main character syndrome'.

'He always thinks he's at the centre of things. I'm not 令状ing shows about him or 促進するing them in the マスコミ, am I? If he 手配中の，お尋ね者 me to be 適切に 匿名の／不明の, he could have done so. Gadd should leave me alone.'

She said she is considering taking 合法的な 活動／戦闘 against him.

She is certainly not the only one to have been caught up in the 落ちる-out from the show. Several online sleuths have wrongly identified 59-year-old theatre director Sean Foley as Gadd's rapist, who is 指名するd Darrien O'Connor in the show and played by actor Tom Goodman-Hill.

Comments have been made about the physical likeness between Foley and Goodman-Hill. Foley's 告示 last week that he was stepping 負かす／撃墜する from his 役割 as creative director at Birmingham Rep fanned the 炎上s その上の.
