Dating really IS a numbers game! Mathematician 明らかにする/漏らすs the 決まり文句/製法 for finding love this Valentine's Day
- To raise your chances at love, you only need to date 37 per cent of your suitors
- The next best suitor from the remaining 63 per cent is likely to be your match
- This is called 'the optimal stopping problem' and was popularised in 1960??
It turns out that dating really is a numbers game, as a mathematician has 明らかにする/漏らすd the 決まり文句/製法 for finding love, just in time for Valentine's Day.
によれば?Dr Gihan?Marasingha from the University of Exeter, you can raise your chances of finding your perfect match after 会合 just a 部分 of your dates.
He said: 'To have the highest chance of 選ぶing the very best suitor you should date and 拒絶する the first 37 per cent of your group of suitors.'?
The trick is to then 選ぶ the next most attractive suitor 利用できる in the other 63 per cent for a date, and they are statistically most likely to be the one for you.
This theory is known as the 'the optimal stopping problem' and was popularised by?maths 熱中している人 ツバメ Gardner in 1960.

Dr Marasingha?said: 'To have the highest chance of 選ぶing the very best suitor you should date and 拒絶する the first 37 パーセント of your group of suitors'
It assumes the 選び出す/独身 person has a defined number of 可能性のある suitors, of which one of them is the best by an 客観的な 最高位の system, like on physical attraction.
If they could all be compared at the same time that would be 平易な, but in reality a person?must 会合,会う each of these dates one-by-one, in a 無作為の order.?
'The 体制/機構 is such that you have no 事前の (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) about any of the suitors,'?Dr Marasingha said.
'You can try each one in turn but cannot return to one you have already tried.
'明確に, it's not a good idea to choose the first suitor you 遭遇(する).'
What the singleton can do is date a 確かな 割合 of the group - 'x' per cent - and each of these 時代遅れの suitors will have a 確かな 最高位の on their 客観的な 規模.
They can then choose to date the next suitor from the remaining bunch who is better than anyone they have ever 時代遅れの before.
This is a 賭事, as they may have already 拒絶するd the best suitor, and the one they 選ぶ may not be the very best in that remaining group.
However, using maths can help them maximise the chances of a good match.
Dr Marasingha 追加するd: 'The 仕事 is to find x that optimises your probability of success.?
'One can show that, for a given x, the probability of choosing the best suitor by this 戦略 is (1 + x(1/(x + 1) + … + 1/(n-1)))/n.
'Then it’s a 事柄 of choosing x to maximise this probability.'
Using calculus, 'x' has been worked out to be だいたい 37 per cent.
In other words, it's best to 精査する through 37 per cent of your matches before committing to one of them, to maximise your chances of a happy 関係.
Dr Marasingha hopes this 解答 'will show people the surprisi ng 力/強力にする of mathematics in 予期しない places'.

Sexy photos are also more of a turn off than a turn on, as a 熟考する/考慮する from the?University of Colorado 設立する they make the 選び出す/独身 seem incompetent and unlikeable.
But selfies can also be a 広大な/多数の/重要な 道具 in the game of love, as 確かな angles can make you seem more attractive.
