Scientists discover life can 生き残る for billions of years of 惑星s without a supporting 星/主役にする

It sounds like something that would be more ふさわしい to 星/主役にする Wars than the Solar System.

But scientists in Chicago have calculated that life can 粘着する on to a 惑星 for billions of years without a 星/主役にする to 供給する a direct source of warmth.

研究 by astrophysicists Dorian Abbot and Eric Switzer from the city's university discovered that heat would come from the 決裂/故障 of 放射性の elements inside the 惑星's 核心.

This heat would be enough to keep the oceans liquid, but only beneath a 厚い sheet of ice which would cover the 惑星's surface.

The ice 層 would make the surface uninhabitable, but 海洋 life below it could 栄える for an indeterminate 量 of time.

The scientists 指名するd their 発見 a 'Steppenwolf' 惑星 because they (人命などを)奪う,主張するd any life 設立する there would '存在する like a 孤独な wolf wandering the galactic steppe'.

However the pair 辞退するd to 推測する on what life forms would be discovered, but agreed that they would me microscopic in size.

The pair's 研究 焦点(を合わせる)d on 惑星s 範囲ing from between 0.1 and 10 times the Earth's 集まり with 類似の features.

The scientists then calculated that a 惑星 with the same 量 of water as Earth would need to be 3.5 times the 集まり to 支える life.

But a 惑星 with ten times as much water would only need to be a third of the 負わせる.

The scientist then imagined a Steppenwolf 惑星 with 火山s emitting 炭酸ガス into the atmosphere.

They 設立する that the gas would 凍結する and 落ちる as snow almost すぐに, covering the world with an 絶縁するing 一面に覆う/毛布 of 乾燥した,日照りの ice. In this 事例/患者, 惑星s as small as 0.3 times the 集まり of Earth could keep a liquid ocean.

The scientists said that the planet would be covered with a large icy layer, but water underneath it would be able to sustain microscopic marine life

The 現象 of a starless 惑星 occurs when they are 排除する/(飛行機などから)緊急脱出するd from their 軌道 when passing 星/主役にするs or other 惑星s 原因(となる) extreme gravitational 軍隊s.

It usually takes place when a small 惑星 comes in の近くに 接触する with gas 巨大(な), 影響ing a slingshot and sendin g them into 安定性のない 軌道s.

This results in the 惑星 slowly 氷点の to death, but as the 研究 has 設立する, this could take several billion years.

'It's a really 利益/興味ing idea,' Lisa Kaltenegger of the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics told the New Scientist.

'But we would have to land on [a 惑星] and burrow 負かす/撃墜する to see if life is possible.'
