The 14 foot wombat: First 完全にする 骸骨/概要 of 先史の monster 設立する in Australia
- The diprotodon 重さを計るd three トンs and was 14ft long
- It lived between 25,000 and two million years ago
It did not eat flesh, but whatever got in it s way would have been trampled to death, scientists agreed today after the first 完全にする 骸骨/概要 of a 先史の monster was 設立する in Australia.
Known as a diprotodon and に例えるd to a 巨大(な) wombat, 重さを計るing three トンs and stretching up to 14ft long, it roamed the Australian continent between 25,000 and two million years ago.
What is known, from a fragment of bone from the remains of another diprotodon discovered in New South むちの跡s, is that these creatures lived on the continent at the same time as the 早期に Aborigines.

A small 穴を開ける was 設立する in that fragment, 示唆するing that the animal was brought 負かす/撃墜する by a spear.
But that was just one bone and, until the 最新の 発見 in north-west Queensland's 湾 of Carpentaria 地域, a 完全にする 骸骨/概要 had not been 設立する.
'We hope we will now be able to 再建する the bones, put them into their 初めの positions, to give us a pre tty good idea of what these creatures looked like,' said Professor Michael Archer of the Australian Museum, who has travelled to a cattle 駅/配置する where the 骸骨/概要 was 設立する.
Although artists have painted what scientists believe would be images of the diprotodon, the 発見 of the 完全にする 骸骨/概要 will help in 明らかにする/漏らすing more of the creature's 形態/調整 and size.
'What we're seeing here is the biggest marsupial (an animal that carries its young in a pouch) that ever lived in the world - a three-トン monster,' said Professor Archer.
'This here in Queensland was its last stand, 裁判官ing by the 比較して undamaged 完全にする 骸骨/概要.'
Professor Archer said it was unusual for all the bones of 古代の creatures to be 設立する in one place.

'All the bones are not やむを得ず in their 権利 position, but probably the whole 骸骨/概要 of this 巨大(な) is in this one 位置/汚点/見つけ出す where it fell maybe 50,000 years ago.
'There was just one little bone sticking out - and then we 設立する the 残り/休憩(する).'
Diprotodons were 普及した across Australia when the first indigenous people arrived some 50,000 years ago from what is today South-East Asia.
The ひどく-built animals fed on grasses but they might not have been too intelligent - although having an oversized skull, it was filled with 非常に/多数の 空気/公表する spaces.
Until the Queensland 発見, the most 完全にする 見本/標本 was 設立する at Tambar Springs in New South むちの跡s.
Scientists were excited to discover that on one rib there was a small square 穴を開ける, believed to have been made by a spear while the bone was still fresh.
Now palaeontologists are hoping that more 手がかり(を与える)s about the creature will be 設立する in the newly-discovered Queensland bones.
