So THAT'S where the 激しく揺するs for Stonehenge (機の)カム from 5,000 years ago
- 発見 覆うs way to new understanding of how 石/投石するs were 輸送(する)d
For centuries, scientists and? historians have argued over why Stonehenge was built and, even more puzzlingly, how.
They are now closer to 割れ目ing one 面 of the mystery after working out the exact 位置/汚点/見つけ出す where some of the 激しく揺するs (機の)カム from.
The 5,000-year-old circle of 石/投石するs ? thought at さまざまな times to have been a 寺 of 傷をいやす/和解させるing, a calendar, or even a 王室の 共同墓地 ? have been traced to an outcrop 150 miles away in north Pembrokeshire.
Pont Saeson: The origin of the Stonehenge Bluestones
Mystery solver: Dr Bevins explains that his 発見 could help explain how and why the 石/投石するs were taken to the Wiltshire 場所/位置
Dr Richard Bevins of the 国家の Museum of むちの跡s and Dr Robert Ixer at Leicester University 狭くするd 負かす/撃墜する the source of the 激しく揺するs,? ? called rhyolites ? to the 70m-long (0.04 miles) area called Craig 粒子s-y-Felin after 実験(する)ing thousands of 見本s and finding a match.
He said the 打開 would help 専門家s work out how they were moved to the 場所/位置 in Wiltshire, which attracts more than a million tourists a year.
Archaeologists have long 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うd that the 82 bluestones, each 重さを計るing up to four tonnes, 起こる/始まるd in the Preseli hills in むちの跡s but this is the first time their origin has been pinpointed so 正確に.
The next step is to look for 証拠 of quarrying at this 場所/位置 in search of more 詳細(に述べる)s as to how the 石/投石するs were rolled, sledged a nd rafted 負かす/撃墜する the River Avon to their final 目的地 by 早期に Britons.
It could debunk another theory that the 激しく揺するs were not 輸送(する)d by humans at all but by the movement of glaciers during the Ice Age several millennia earlier.

The team used special 地質学の 器具/備品 to compare the bluestones with several outcrops in the area over nine months.
All but four could be matched to one 明確な/細部 場所/位置 近づく the village of Pont Saeson.
Dr Bevins said: ‘What this means is that the area is now small enough for archaeologists to excavate to try and 暴露する 証拠 for associated human activity, so 供給するing another 立ち往生させる of the story of how the 石/投石するs from Pembrokeshire reached Stonehenge.’ Dr Ixer 述べるd the find, published yesterday in the 定期刊行物 Archaeology in むちの跡s, as ‘やめる 予期しない and exciting’.
And Stonehenge 専門家 Professor Geoff Wainwright, former 長,指導者 archaeologist at English 遺産, said it was a ‘科学の 勝利’.
‘It does not discredit any previous work, it gives archaeologists an area to 焦点(を合わせる) on,’ he said. ‘It’s still something of a mystery but we are now a step closer to getting the answers.’
Exhaustive search: One 研究員 に例えるd the 発見 to finding a needle in a haystack
Archaeologist Julian Richards, presenter of the BBC’s 会合,会う the Ancestors, told the Daily Mail: ‘This is very 利益/興味ing and 狭くするs the search 負かす/撃墜する, but the 宗教上の Grail is to find a 石/投石する along the way, which could have dropped off the sledge, which could show us how it was 達成するd.’
A 溝へはまらせる/不時着する and bank were created at Stonehenge around 3000BC and it was used as a burial ground. It is thought all the 石/投石するs, made from 火山の 激しく揺する harder than granite, were brought there around 2600BC and placed in two circles.
The final sta
ge was around 200 years later when 古代の Britons 地雷d sarcen 石/投石するs from Marlborough ? 25 miles away ? and are thought to have brought them on sledges. They believed the 石/投石するs had supernatural or 傷をいやす/和解させるing 力/強力にする and were 用意が出来ている to go to extreme lengths to harness it.
