These are the 原型s of robots that may one day live の中で - even as our friends.

Developed in Bristol and Essex, they are 存在 designed to 救助（する） us, （疑いを）晴らす our 下水管s and become our companions.

Scientists even hope some of the humanoid designs will one day compete - and （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域 - humans in football matches.

The BERT2 humanoid can interact with humans using an expressive 直面する and 人工的な 手渡すs.

Theoretically, it could be controlled from anywhere in the world and so could be the forerunner of a robotic 外科医 成し遂げるing remote 操作／手術s around the globe.

Others have been 奮起させるd by nature and can swim like fish or mimic the flight of birds and insects.

Mimicking nature: Robots like Jules (above) are covered in a synthetic 肌 to give a life-like 外見 and can 答える／応じる to humans with facial 表現s much like our own

The Robotic Fish, which has the 'natural 速度(を上げる） and 動議 of a large carp', can operate autonomously and is designed to 監視する water 汚染 and （悪事，秘密などを）発見する 漏れるs from ships in harbour.

Dr Ioannis Ieropoulos, 上級の 研究員 at the Bristol Robotic 研究室／実験室, said the scientists had looked to nature for inspiration.

'Natural systems 論証する perfectly that most of the difficult 工学 problems have already been solved,' he said.

CAN TRUE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EVER BE ACHIEVED?

専門家s remain divided about whether true 人工的な 知能 can be 得るd.

But scientists are certainly making good 進歩.

A 一連の 実験（する）s has been 示唆するd to 決定する whether the computer can equal the human mind and two have been successful:

One of his personal 創造s is the EcoBot III, which can 力／強力にする itself by 'feeding' on 汚水 water.

The water 供給するs nutrients for the robot’s 燃料 独房s and these 生成する electricity to 力／強力にする it.

This self-sustainability means it could 結局 be programmed to roam along 下水管s, きれいにする them as it goes.

Dr Ieropoulos 追加するd: 'By looking at how animals in nature 支える themselves, a robot could be developed that is able to operate in 敵意を持った and lethal 環境s, 供給するing a service to humankind.'

Others like the Shrewbot and SCRATCHbot, which both have 極度の慎重さを要する 'whiskers’, could be used in 救助（する） 使節団s to search pitch-黒人／ボイコット 洞穴s.
