Many lizards can 溝へはまらせる/不時着する their tails when grabbed, but a newly discovered gecko sheds its 肌 at the lightest touch.
The new 種類, 設立する on Madagascar, has 大規模な 規模s which 涙/ほころび away leaving it looking like a raw chicken fillet.
This 許すs their escape from predators who are left with a mouth 十分な of 規模s.

A new 種類 of gecko 設立する on Madagascar has 大規模な 規模s which 涙/ほころび away leaving it looking like a raw chicken fillet. The defence 機械装置 許すs their escape from predators who are left with a mouth 十分な of 規模s. Left shows the gecko before it loses its 肌
Scientists have 指名するd the lizard Geckolepis megalepis.
It has the largest 規模s of any 種類 of gecko, and they are 特に adapted for 涙/ほころびing.?
The 規模s of the 'fish-規模' gecko are 大(公)使館員d to the 肌 by a 狭くする 関係 that 涙/ほころびs with 緩和する.
Beneath them they have a pre-formed 'splitting zone' within the 肌 like perforated paper.
Although several other geckos are able to lose their 肌 for self defence, Geckolepis are 明らかに able to do so 活発に at the slightest touch.
And while others might take a long time to regenerate their 規模s, these geckos can grow them 支援する, scar-解放する/自由な, in a 事柄 of weeks.
The remarkable ability has made them a serious challenge to 研究.
研究員s 述べるd how it was necessary to catch them with bundles of cotton wool to 避ける them losing almost all of their 肌.
Now they are trying to catch them without touching them if possible by 誘惑するing them into plastic 捕らえる、獲得するs.
But once they are caught, the challenges are not over - identifying and 述べるing them is even more difficult.
Lead author 示す Scherz, a PhD student at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany, said: 'A 熟考する/考慮する a few years ago showed that our understanding of the 多様制 of fish-規模 geckos was 全く 不十分な.
'It showed us that there were actu 同盟(する) about 13 高度に 際立った genetic lineages in this genus, and not just the three or four 種類 we thought 存在するd.
研究員s used 3D ex-ray techniques to 診察する the 骸骨/概要s of geckos without having to dissect them. By looking at the 骸骨/概要s, the 研究員s were able to identify some features of the skull (pictured) that distinguish their new 種類 from others
'One of the 相違する lineages they identified was すぐに obvious as a new 種類, because it had such 大規模な 規模s.
'But to 指名する it, we had to find 付加 reliable 特徴 that distinguish it from the other 種類.
'You have to think a bit outside the box with Geckolepis. They're a nightmare to identify.
'So we turned to micro-CT to get at their s keletons and search there for identifying features.'
Micro-CT - micro-計算するd tomography - is essentially a 3D x-ray of an 反対する.
The method 許すs 研究員s to 診察する the 骸骨/概要s of animals without having to dissect them.
By looking at the 骸骨/概要s of the geckos, the 研究員s were able to identify some features of the skull that distinguish their new 種類 from others.
But they also 設立する some surprises.
A 種類 指名するd 150 years ago, Geckolepis maculata, was 確認するd to be different from the genetic lineage that it had been thought to be.
Mr Scherz said: 'This is just typical of Geckolepis. You think you have them sorted out, but then you get a result that turns your hypothesis on its 長,率いる.
'We still have no idea what Geckolepis maculata really is - we are just getting more and more 確かな what it's not.'
The new 種類, Geckolepis megalepis, which was 述べるd in a paper published in the 定期刊行物 Peer J, is most remarkable because of its 抱擁する 規模s, which are by far the largest of any gecko.
The 研究員s believe the larger 規模s 涙/ほころび more easily than smaller 規模s, because of their greater surface area 親族 to the attachment area, and larger 摩擦 surface.
Mr Scherz 追加するd: 'What's really remarkable though is that these 規模s - which are really dense and may even be bony, and must be やめる energetically 高くつく/犠牲の大きい to produce - and the 肌 beneath them 涙/ほころび away with such 緩和する, and can be regenerated quickly and without a scar.'
He said the 機械装置 for regeneration, which is not 井戸/弁護士席 understood, could 潜在的に have 使用/適用s in human 薬/医学.
