From wild 80s pop 星/主役にする to TV's teary マリファナ 星/主役にする! He was a hellraising rocker, now The 広大な/多数の/重要な Pottery Throw 負かす/撃墜する's Keith Brymer Jones prefers renovating chapels to riotous gigs

Keith Brymer Jones is discussing the destructive 力/強力にする of 乾燥した,日照りの rot when he starts fiddling with his phone.?

'Let me show you,' says The 広大な/多数の/重要な Pottery Throw 負かす/撃墜する 裁判官, 明らかにする/漏らすing a clip of a door in the chapel he's renova ting with his partner of 14 years, Marj Hogarth. 'Keep watching. Wait for it…'

The 木材/素質 lintel above the door suddenly 崩壊するs like a chocolate flake 鎮圧するd by an over-熱心な toddler.?

'There's no one there,' says Keith with far more joie de vivre than most would 召集(する) when watching their new home 崩壊(する). 'It's doing that on its own. Gravity took 持つ/拘留する. It's literally self-destructing.'

Keith, of course, is the 58-year-old master potter who's known for crying over everything from 洗面所s to toast racks on Throw 負かす/撃墜する, his 涙/ほころびs a badge of honour for competitors akin to Bake Off's Hollywood Handshake.?

It's this passion that's won him many fans, の中で them Brad Pitt, who 明らかにする/漏らすd his love for the show, and Keith in particular, in a 2022 interview.

But the chapel's ruinous 明言する/公表する didn't stop the couple 落ちるing for the bewitching building or its 素晴らしい 場所 in Pwllheli, North むちの跡s.?

Now a four-part Channel 4 series, Our Welsh Chapel Dream, will follow them as they transform the old place of worship into a new place to live and work ? home, pottery studio and community 中心 in one.

Bought 18 months ago for £200,000, the Grade II-名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)d chapel with Sunday school 別館 was an unholy mess. Built in 1862 and once owned by the Presbyterian Church of むちの跡s, it had been abandoned for 12 years.?

Gutters were 封鎖するd, windows broken and 予定するs 行方不明の. Water ran 負かす/撃墜する the 塀で囲むs inside, brambles strangled outside.?

乾燥した,日照りの rot is eating through the 所有物/資産/財産 and a staircase has just been lost. 'It's like a 癌,' says Marj, 56. 'You have to get all of it. That'll be a 恐れる that'll live with me forever, that maybe we 港/避難所't.'

They've at least seen the last of the birds. 'You'd walk into the hall and there'd be 200 pigeons on the beams,' says Keith.?

'It was Hitchcockian.' Each day, for weeks, they would be 立ち退かせるd and methods of 入ること/参加(者) 調印(する)d. Next day they'd be 支援する. The 別館 rafters were 十分な of guano, which 解放(する)d 危険な ガス/煙s and cost £20,000 to (疑いを)晴らす. Workmen had to wear hazmat 控訴s and breathing apparatus to get rid of it.?

'It was 膝 高さ,' says Keith. 'I poked my 長,率いる through the hatch and couldn't breathe. The ammonia brought 涙/ほころびs to your 注目する,もくろむs.'

But with its ornate 天井 and gallery, the chapel stole their hearts, and they'll 株 their monumental 旅行 with TV テレビ視聴者s. 'There'll be 塀で囲むs decorated with my 涙/ほころびs,' says Marj.

Keith will doubtless have a weep to o. 'Although I come across as emotional, and I am, in times of challenge I'm 長,率いる 負かす/撃墜する,' he says.?

'If there's something I feel I can 達成する, I'll 達成する it.' Indeed. Making ceramics for the likes of 傷をいやす/和解させる's and Habitat, he would often throw as many as 1,000 マリファナs a day.

Both design geeks (they met at a 貿易(する) fair), Keith and Marj love reclamation yards and upcycling.?

Yet this isn't just a 革新 show, it's a portrait of a 共同. 'The way I define love is we don't 偉業/利用する each other's vulnerabilities,' says Keith.?

'It's a 特権 to let someone into your life. With the 権利 person, everything's twice as good. When things are 堅い, they're half as bad. Marj is my muse.'

Marj 追加するs, 'I never thought I'd feel about another human 存在 the way I feel about Keith. My parents adored each other. It never made sense to me, until I met Keith. He's my best friend. It's such a clich? when people call their partner their 'other half', but Keith is the other half of me.'

The show's also a portrait of a community. In Pwllheli, 80 per cent of the 4,000 居住(者)s speak Welsh (Keith and Marj are learning the language). They were christened, married and held funerals in the chapel. So might there be weddings there again??

'For friends,' says Marj. 'We're not having a wedding 商売/仕事.' Comparisons will be made with Escape To The Chateau, but the shows are very different. 'Our show is rooted in the community,' says Marj. 'And we don't have a moat!'

Keith nods. 'It's not just about us, it's the different characters who support us. They're wonderful nutters. You only have to scratch the surface to find incredible stories.'

Born in London to Welsh parents, does Keith feel he's returning to where he belongs? 'It does feel like that. I wish my parents were alive to see me. They'd be amazed.'

The pair have always danced to the (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 of their own 派手に宣伝する. Keith did ballet, tap and Highland dancing as a child, and discovered pottery at 11.?

He'd bunk off school to visit the V&A. He trained at Harefield Pottery before 開始 his own studio in 1989, and is known for his Word 範囲 of homeware, which is sold in 40-加える countries.

It's a long way from his days as lead singer of The Wigs in the 80s. 'We were 地位,任命する-punk indie. We were very loud. I had a powerful 発言する/表明する. When I got on 行う/開催する/段階 all hell was let loose. Blur and 低俗雑誌 used to support us. Our 経営者/支配人 株d greyhounds with Damon Albarn.'

You can still see a ビデオ for their 選び出す/独身 Six O'Clock Shuffle on YouTube. 'We did a Janice Long 開会/開廷/会期 and it was the 最高潮の場面 of our time to be on 無線で通信する 1,' says Keith. 'Janice was wonderful.'

Marj, who's from the Scottish 小島 of Bute, was also a singer, and in 2005 reached No. 13 in the UK charts with DJ/生産者 Mylo and the 跡をつける In My 武器.?

'I didn't know it was big,' she 収容する/認めるs. 'I was working in a shop and this girl who'd come 支援する from Ibiza said, 'I have this amazing 跡をつける…' and played it. I said, 'Oh, that's me.'

Keith and Marj have never sung 公然と together, but perhaps that'll change. The chapel is ideal for comedy, pottery デモs and gigs. 'We could do anything,' says Keith. 'Supper clubs, karaoke, bingo…'

Do they get emotional about the life they'll make, Keith pootling to the wheel in his PJs to throw a マリファナ before breakfast? 'I'm running に向かって that scene,' he 収容する/認めるs. 'To throw a マリファナ before the bacon is on would be brilliant.'
