The 政府 has committed to 開始する，打ち上げるing an 調査 into why drivers are 存在 dazzled by other 運転者s' headlights - and how to 厳重取締 on the dangerous 問題／発行する.

It comes after a 最近の熟考する／考慮する by the RAC 設立する four in five 運転者s said glare from other 乗り物's lights is becoming a growing problem and has been getting worse in 最近の years.

The DfT 供給するd an 公式の／役人 comment on a car headlights dazzling 嘆願（書）体制／機構 by a member of the public earlier this year.

At the time of publishing, the 嘆願（書） has received over 10,850 署名s に引き続いて（選挙などの）運動をするing by モーターing groups like the RAC 同様に as the College of Optometrists and Member of the House of Lords, Baroness Hayter.

It's becoming ますます明らかな that more drivers are 存在 troubled by the brightness of other 乗り物s' headlights, raising 関心s that it could 誘発する a rise in 事故s on the road.

'The 基準s define the beam pattern and 含む最大限 and 最小限 light intensities.'

The DfT 追加するd that it is 井戸／弁護士席 aware that more people are raising 関心s about the intensity of headlight glare, but caveated the point by 明言する／公表するing that police 衝突／不一致統計（学） 'don't show any underlying road safety 問題／発行する'.

With that said, 公式の／役人人物／姿／数字s show that since 2013 there have been an 普通の／平均（する） of 280 衝突／不一致s on Britain's roads a year where dazzling headlights were a contributory factor.

Seven ways to 限界 the 衝撃 of glare - and 妨げる dazzling others

1. Slow 負かす／撃墜する at night

If the glare from an oncoming 乗り物 at night is so bad that you 一時的に can’t see anything, you should slow 負かす／撃墜する to 減ずる the 危険 of the 衝撃 on your impaired visibility.

However, 避ける slowing or stopping 突然の as you don’t want a car that is travelling behind you running into the 支援する of you.?

2. Don't look 直接／まっすぐに at oncoming headlights

To 妨げる yourself from 存在 dazzled, never look 直接／まっすぐに at the headlights of other cars.

Look to the left-手渡す味方する of the road and follow the white line 場内取引員／株価 the 辛勝する／優位 if there is one, so you can keep 跡をつける of your position, the RAC recommends.?

3. Make sure your windscreen is （疑いを）晴らす?

Windscreens are 特に susceptible to steaming up on the inside, 特に in 冷淡な天候, while car heaters can blow dirty 空気／公表する at the glass, 原因（となる）ing a 煙霧のかかった film to build up on the inside.?

This can 増加する glare from oncoming headlamps, so 確実にする yours is clean and （疑いを）晴らす.

4. Adjust your 後部-見解（をとる） mirror?

Many new モーターs in showrooms today have an 自動車-dimming 後部-見解（をとる） mirror 機能（する）／行事. If your car doesn't then you should be dipping the mirror manually.

5. Consider anti-glare glasses

If 存在 dazzled by other drivers' headlights or street lighting is an 問題／発行する, 運転者s should consider anti-glare glasses when 運動ing at night.

These are not 簡単に glasses with yellow 色合いs, which can help 減ずる glare by also make darker areas of the road いっそう少なく明白な and are therefore not recommended.

6.?Use low beams where possible to 保護（する）／緊急輸入制限 other drivers

Use your low-beam headlights instead of high beams when 運動ing in 井戸／弁護士席-lit areas or when approaching other 乗り物s as high beams can 意味ありげに増加する glare.

7. 定期的に adjust your headlights

確実にする that your headlights are 正確に目的（とする）d, 特に if you are often travelling with 激しい負担s, which can 衝撃 the 高さ of your lights beam.?

Misaligned headlights not only 与える／捧げる to blinding other drivers but will also 減ずる your own visibility.

What the RAC's 熟考する／考慮する into headlight dazzling 設立する?

The RAC at the end of 2023 投票d 2,000 UK licence 支えるもの／所有者s about headlight glare and the 衝撃 it has on them.?

Of all the drivers who complained about the brightness of car headlights, some 91 per cent say they have been dazzled when 運動ing in the last 12 months.

Worryingly, only momentarily losing 十分な visibility for such a duration is enough for a driver travelling at 60mph to cover 160 metres - which is the 同等（の） of 40 cars lengths - without 存在 able to see 適切に.

More than three in five drivers say it has reached such problematic levels that dazzling is becoming a 原因（となる） of 事故s.

In fact, five per cent of these drivers told the RAC they have nearly been 伴う／関わるd in a 衝突／不一致 themselves as a result of having their eyesight 一時的に妥協d by 有望な headlights.

Alarmingly, 7 per cent said they find headlight glare so bad on the roads today that they 避ける運動ing at night altogether, a 人物／姿／数字 that rises to 14 per cent for drivers 老年の 65 and over.

Having 毎年研究d and published 報告（する）／憶測s on the number of 運転者s 苦しむing from dazzling on the road since 2018, the RAC says there is plenty of 証拠 to show this is becoming a growing 関心.?

Four 推論する／理由s for the rise in drivers 存在 dazzled

1. Brighter white-色合い LED lights 取って代わるing 'yellower' halogen bulbs

Some 87 per cent of drivers 投票d by the RAC earlier this year think dazzling is becoming an 増加するing 問題／発行する thanks to headlights appearing much brighter.

This could be a result of the 増加するing prevalence of cars fitted with LED headlights, 主要な to a much more 激しい and 焦点（を合わせる）d beam that the human 注目する，もくろむ反応するs 異なって to, compared to a 従来の 'yellower' halogen bulb.

While LED headlights are 広大な／多数の／重要な for 改善するing a driver's 見解（をとる） of the road ahead, this can be to the detriment of other road 使用者s who 遭遇（する） them.

Arguably the biggest contributor to the rise in dazzling is the switch to brighter LED headlights instead of halogen bulbs. The former are often whiter and more likely to 一時的に blind oncoming 運転者s, while the latter are yellower and いっそう少なく likely to 原因（となる） glare

2. Cheap LED aftermarket bulbs

One other 原因（となる） of the rise in dazzling on the road is the use of sub-基準 LED bulbs that can be 購入（する）d online.

Cheap 交替／補充s, 特に for older cars using halogen bulbs, can be 危険に有望な or produce the wrong beam pattern, both of which can 一時的に blind oncoming 運転者s.

Only bulbs with an 'E' 示す are みなすd 合法的な in Britain, but aftermarket LED 昇格s cannot be 問題／発行するd one of these certified 示すs. This is because no 法律制定現在／一般に存在するs for the use of LED 科学（工学）技術 in a headlight 部隊 built for halogens.

However, this is difficult to police. And even MOT testers are not 要求するd to check if a bulb is E 示すd 予定 to the time-消費するing nature of having to 接近 the 製品.

This is why it is always recommended to 購入（する）交替／補充 bulbs from your car from reputable 製造業者s, such as Osram and Philips.

3. Drivers failing to adjust lights

More than two in five of the 2,000 運転者s 投票d by the RAC in January think the rise in dazzling is 原因（となる）d by 不正に提携させるd headlights.

A Freedom of （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） request submitted to the Driver and 乗り物基準s 機関 in November 2023 shows that since 2019, an 普通の／平均（する） of 1.6million, or 5 per cent, of cars failed their MOTs 予定 to poor headlight 目的（とする）.

What's more, with the DVSA 明言する／公表するing in 2016 that 'headlamp 目的（とする）終始一貫して最高の，を越すs the MOT 同意／服従調査する as one of the most likely items to be 査定する／（税金などを）課すd incorrectly by testers', the actual 人物／姿／数字 could be much higher.

4. 増加するing 人気 of SUVs

The rise in sales of SUVs is also a 与える／捧げるing factor in the 増加する in 危険 of 存在 dazzled at night, によれば回答者／被告s to both the AA 投票 and the one 行為／行うd by the RAC last month.

Because they are higher off the ground - and therefore their lights positioned higher than a hatchback or saloon - they 危険向こうずねing 直接／まっすぐに into the 直面する of oncoming 運転者s in 従来の cars.

Three in five (62 per cent) RAC members who 運動非，不，無-SUV models 非難する the spike in dazzling on higher 乗り物s, 反して only 35 per cent of those in higher 乗り物s point the finger 類似して sized 乗り物s.

Older drivers are more likely to be dazzled by headlights?

'The results from this 研究 by the RAC are helpful to 知らせる our understanding of how changes in 乗り物 headlight 科学（工学）技術s may be 影響する／感情ing both the 機能の見通し of young and older drivers, and their visual 慰安, when 運動ing at night,' he said.

'Older drivers are likely to be 不均衡な影響する／感情d by headlight glare, so may be more likely to experience difficulties or to decide not to 運動 at night at all.

'We 勧める the 政府 to （売買）手数料，委託（する）／委員会／権限 more technical and 臨床の研究 to have a better understanding of this 問題／発行する and what should be done to 緩和する the 影響s of dazzling headlights.'

John Kushnick, 合法的な操作／手術s director at 国家の事故 Helpline told This is Money that dazzling 有望な headlights can 提起する／ポーズをとる '重要な road safety 危険s for drivers, 影響する／感情ing their visibility and 潜在的に主要な to 事故s' and 勧めるd 運転者s to 報告（する）／憶測乗り物s with blinding lights to the police.

He advised: 'It's 決定的な for drivers to remain vigilant on the roads and stay aware of the 可能性のある hazards 原因（となる）d by dazzling headlights and take proactive 対策 to mitigate the 危険s.?

'Additionally, road safety 当局 and 乗り物製造業者s play a 役割 in establishin g and 施行するing 規則s to 確実にする that 乗り物 lighting systems 固執する to safety 基準s.

'It’s important for drivers to remember to play it 安全な if you cannot see 予定 to the 有望な headlights; slow 負かす／撃墜する, 避ける all challenging manoeuvres, and do not pull out of a 味方する road.'
