A 生体検査 returned the 破滅的な news that she had melanoma.?

She said: 'I was 全く thrown. I was young and could count on the fingers of one 手渡す the number of times I’d been sunburnt. How could I have a 肌 癌 有能な of 殺人,大当り me?'

外科, leaving a 20 cm scar on her 支援する, left her 癌-解放する/自由な for nine years, before she was told it had returned after she discovered a lump under her left armpit.?

She was told by doctors that the 大多数 of 患者s with her diagnosis would die within six months.?

明らかにする/漏らすing how she told her loved ones, she said: 'We are not a gushy family; the silence on the other end of the phone from my father, a GP, told me all I needed to know. The news was very bad.

'I was operated on quickly; a much smaller, tidier scar this time for a much bigger problem. I was referred to the 王室の 解放する/自由な Hospital in Hampstead. My doctor said I had 行う/開催する/段階 3b melanoma that had spread to my lymph nodes.'

More on the personalised mRNA jab

What are mRNA ワクチンs?

While the science dates 支援する to 2005, the first ワクチンs to use the mRNA 科学(工学)技術 were those made by BioNTech and Moderna against the Covid ウイルス.

Messenger リボ核酸, or mRNA, is a genetic 詳細な計画 that 教えるs 独房s to 製造(する) proteins in the 団体/死体.

Unlike other 伝統的な ワクチンs, a live or attenuated ウイルス is not 注入するd or 要求するd at any point.

For Covid, the mRNA ワクチン 教えるd 独房s to make the spike protein 設立する on the surface of the ウイルス itself.

These 害のない proteins 'train' the 免疫の system to recognise the ウイルス and then to make 独房s that fight it if someone later gets 感染させるd with the real thing.

How does the melanoma 治療 work??

Known as mRNA-4157 (V940), the jab 誘発する/引き起こすs the 免疫の system to?fight 支援する against the 患者's 明確な/細部 type of 癌 and tumour.

To create the 治療, a 見本 of tumour is 除去するd during the 患者's 外科.

デオキシリボ核酸 sequencing is then carried out?to identify proteins produced by 癌 独房s, known as neoantigens, that will 誘発する/引き起こす an 免疫の 返答.

These are then used to create a personalised mRNA ワクチン that tells the 患者's 団体/死体 to 生成する the tumour-明確な/細部 neoantigen proteins.?

Once 注入するd, the 免疫の system 反応するs to the proteins by creating 闘士,戦闘機 T 独房s which?attack the tumour, 殺人,大当り the 癌 独房s.?

The 免疫の system should recognise any 未来 rogue 独房s, hopefully stopping the 癌 returning.?

What have the 裁判,公判s shown??

Scientists have given 裁判,公判 関係者s the jab と一緒に an immunotherapy 麻薬, pembrolizumab or Keytruda, that also helps the 免疫の system kill 癌 独房s.?

Data from the 段階 2 裁判,公判 published in December 設立する people with serious high-危険 melanomas who received the jab と一緒に Keytruda were almost half (49 per cent) as likely to die or have their 癌 come 支援する after three years than those who were given only Keytruda.?

患者s received one milligram of the mRNA ワクチン every three weeks for a 最大限 of nine doses, and 200 milligrams of Keytruda every three weeks (最大限 18 doses) for about a year.

Dr Heather Shaw, 国家の co-ordinating 捜査官/調査官 for the UCLH 裁判,公判,?said there was re al hope the therapy could be a 'game-changer', 特に as it appeared to have '比較して tolerable 味方する 影響s'.

These 含む tiredness and a sore arm when the jab was given, she said, 追加するing that for the 大多数 of 患者s it appeared no worse than having a flu or Covid ワクチン.

When will the jab be 利用できる?

The 連合させるd 治療 is not yet 利用できる routinely on the NHS, outside of 臨床の 裁判,公判s.?

But St?phane Bancel, Moderna's director general, believes that an mRNA ワクチン for melanoma could be 利用できる in 2025.?

The 段階-three 全世界の 裁判,公判 will 含む a wider 範囲 of 患者s and 研究員s are hoping to 新採用する around 1,100 people.

At least 60 to 70 患者s across eight UK centres ―?含むing in London, Manchester, Edinburgh?and 物陰/風下d ― are 始める,決める to be 新採用するd.

The twin therapy combination will also be 実験(する)d in 肺, bladder and 腎臓 癌.

The 患者s on 裁判,公判 must have had their high-危険 melanoma surgically 除去するd in the last 12 weeks to 確実にする the best result.?
