What are passkeys... and are they really better than passwords for keeping your money 安全な online?

  • Passwords are 攻撃を受けやすい to phishing attacks that could 妥協 your data
  • Passkeys use biometric 安全 to 確実にする that only you can 接近 accounts

安全 専門家s 警告する that passwords are becoming 'no longer fit for 目的' - with passkeys 始める,決める to be the 未来 for keeping your money and personal data 安全な online.

In 2024, having a strong password is like riding a bike. Almost everyone knows what they need to do ーするために 保護する themselves online.

The problem is that human nature 勝利,勝つs out all too often. Why bother with 'X*a$86&f', when 'password' is so much easier to remember.

Worryingly, but not surprisingly, the most 一般的に used password is '123456', によれば password 管理/経営 会社/堅い NordPass.

The basic advice on how to create an uncrackable password is to 選ぶ for a 無作為の stream of numbers, 資本/首都 and lowercase letters and symbols, making them hard to remember.

Remembering passwords has been made easier by the advent of password 経営者/支配人s, ソフトウェア which 蓄える/店s all your login (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) in one 安全な・保証する place.

But にもかかわらず this many still want?a better 解答, as their?lives are still 疫病/悩ますd by having to reset passwords on a 正規の/正選手 basis.

Luckily, there is a 解答 that is growing in 人気. Passkeys 申し込む/申し出 an 代案/選択肢 調印する-in method, that cannot be 妥協d やめる so easily.

What is a passkey??

Passkeys are unique identifiers that are 生成するd by a 使用者's 装置, such as a 動きやすい phone, and linked to the website or 使用/適用 they want to スピードを出す/記録につける in to.?

They can let you 調印する into an account just by 打ち明けるing your phone, which has 接近 to the passkey credential. によれば proponents of the 科学(工学)技術, they can't be 漏れるd, guessed or stolen.?

The use of 指紋 scanning or facial 承認 is what 立証するs it is you in 所有/入手 of your 装置, and 許すs the passkey to be used.?

You don't need to remember anything to use a passkey, and as it is 全く unique it can only be used for one account.?

The 発明 of passkeys 捜し出すs to 演説(する)/住所 the problems with passwords which have led to 10年間s of data 違反s.

'Passwords are no longer fit for 目的 - they're easily 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスd and put too much onus on the end-使用者,' Simon McNally, cyber 安全 専門家 at defence and 安全 会社/堅い Thales, said.

'Our 最近の 研究 設立する that 64 per cent of 顧客s are 失望させるd with cumbersome password resets, and with human error still the 主要な 原因(となる) of data 違反s this should be a 主要な 関心 for 商売/仕事s too.

'開発s in AI and quantum 計算するing, which will put how and what data is used 堅固に in the スポットライト, only その上の make this a 圧力(をかける)ing need.'

The idea, によれば Google, is that passkeys will 取って代わる the need to remember long and コンビナート/複合体 passwords, 同様に as 除去するing the need for 'sticking plaster' 開発s such as two-factor authentication, 安全 questions and SMS 立証 messages.

支援する in 2022, Google, Microsoft and Apple 共同で 支援するd a new 調印する-in 基準, with their goal 存在 a 'passwordless 未来'.

More recently, passkeys have been 可決する・採択するd by 商売/仕事 such as PayPal, Ebay, アマゾン and Shopify.

Passkeys not only 除去する the need for long and コンビナート/複合体 passwords, they also 供給する greater 保護 against fraudsters, hackers and data 違反s.

McNally said: 'Using cryptographic techniques, passkeys are harder to 割れ目 ? making them far more 安全な・保証する. They're also automatically 生成するd and can be 安全に 蓄える/店d on 装置s, making it easier for the 消費者 and 除去するing the need to create long, コンビナート/複合体 passwords or phrases.

'Finally, passkeys enable greater privacy by 認めるing authentication without 手渡すing over 極度の慎重さを要する (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) ? 減ずるing the 危険 of data 違反s.'

How 普及した are passkeys?

現在/一般に, passkeys are still in their 幼少/幼藍期, 親族 to passwords at least. But the 見込み is that an 増加するing number of online 壇・綱領・公約s will 可決する・採択する the 科学(工学)技術, making the most of its cybersecurity 利益s.

Matt Cooke, cybersecurity strategist at Proofpoint, said: 'More recently the use of passkeys has become 広範囲にわたって considered to be more 安全な・保証する than passwords, 除去するing the need to 始める,決める unique, 安全な・保証する passwords and the hassle of remembering 多重の 信任状 for different online accounts.

'However, 採択 of passkeys is not going to happen 夜通し. The more 場所/位置s that use them the better (and more 安全な・保証する!) things will become for all of us, but the 装置s we use to 接近 them also need to start talking to each other to really come up with a 全世界の/万国共通の 解答 for all.'

Passkeys 一般に rely on biometrics ーするために 確認する that the 訂正する 使用者 is 接近ing an account. Because of this, 装置s that do not have 接近 to 指紋 scanners or facial 承認 cannot support the 科学(工学)技術.

にもかかわらず this, more and more 動きやすい 装置s have this 科学(工学)技術, and 遺産/遺物 装置s will 徐々に 落ちる out of use. In the 合間, there is still some way to go before passkeys become 広範囲にわたって used, let alone the only 利用できる 選択.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of companies that have yet to 可決する・採択する passkey 科学(工学)技術. However, for those that do, it is simple enough to switch to this method of 調印する-in.

Simon McNally recommends checking your accounts with companies to see if passkeys are supported, while your 装置s may also have 選択s to create a passkey.?

Searching for this in your 装置's settings will 許す you to see if your 装置 is supported.
