A Dead Sea Scroll that was thought to have been lost to history has now been rediscovered more than 6,000 miles away in the US.
The 古代の fragment, 概算の to be 概略で 2,700 years old, is one of just three papyri to 生き残る from the First 寺 Period.
But it was 事実上 forgotten and might have remained so were it not for the death of Ada Yardeni, a scholar of 古代の Hebrew script, in 2018.
Asked to 完全にする her unfinished 調書をとる/予約する, Professor Shmuel Ahituv spotted the fragment in a photo and 開始する,打ち上げるd a (選挙などの)運動をする to 跡をつける 負かす/撃墜する the 行方不明の parchment.

招待するd to the 宗教上の Land, the 現在の 無名の owner visited the イスラエル Antiquities 当局 (IAA) lab where the Dead Sea Scrolls are 保存するd, and agreed that it should stay there for 未来 自然保護.
'に向かって the end of the First 寺 period, 令状ing was 普及した,' said Joe Uziel, director of the IAA Judean 砂漠 Scrolls 部隊.
'However, First 寺-period 文書s written on 有機の 構成要素s ? such as this papyrus ? have scarcely 生き残るd.
'Whilst we have thousands of scroll fragments dating from the Second 寺 period, we have only three 文書s, 含むing this newly 設立する one, from the First 寺 period.
'Each new 文書 sheds その上の light on the literacy and the 行政 of the First 寺 period.'
The fragment itself is mysterious because it is made up of just four torn lines beginning with the words 'to Ishmael send...' in 古代の Hebrew.
It is thought that the 十分な message was a 始める,決める of 指示/教授/教育s to the 受取人.
Professor Ahituv, from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, said: 'The 指名する Ishmael について言及するd in the 文書, was a ありふれた 指名する in the biblical period, meaning "God will hear".

'It first appears in the Bible as the 指名する of the son of Abraham and Hagar, and it is subsequently the personal 指名する of several individuals in the Bible.
'It also appears as the 指名する of 公式の/役人s on paleographic finds such as bullae ? clay stamp 調印(する)s ? used for 調印(する)ing 王室の 文書s in the 行政 of the Kingdom of Judah.'
To 確認する the 文書 was 本物の, it was radiometrically 時代遅れの at the Weizmann 学校/設ける in Rehovot, 明らかにする/漏らすing its 古代の pedigree.
専門家s believe the parchment was probably taken from the same Judean 砂漠 洞穴s where the other Dead Sea Scrolls were 保存するd for millennia by a 乾燥した,日照りの, stable 気候.

The fragment was later passed on by Joseph Sa'広告, curator of the Rockefeller Museum, and Halil Iskander Kandu, a 井戸/弁護士席-known antiquities 売買業者 who sold thousands of Dead Sea scroll fragments.
Now the 文書 will be 保存するd for 未来 世代s.
Eitan Klein, from the 窃盗 予防 部隊 of the IAA, said: 'Returning th is 文書 to イスラエル is part of 現在進行中の 成果/努力s to 保護する and 保存する the cultural 遺産 of the 明言する/公表する of イスラエル.
'It's a 遺産 that belongs to all its 国民s, playing a 役割 in the story of the historical 遺産 of the country and its inhabitants over the centuries.
'The 合法的な and worthy place for this artefact is in the IAA Dead Sea Scrolls 部隊, and we are making every 成果/努力 to retrieve 付加 fragmentary scrolls 位置を示すd abroad, and to bring them to イスラエル.'
